Glad to hear you had a good time in Niagara. Been thinking about heading up there with Teresa. Sounds like a crazy double world with state parkland on one side and nutty kitsch on the other.

Bummer that you and NR had some bad rides. Goosebumps in the heat is scary!

If you are still thinking about the Ches Bch ride, I'll let you know that I am absolutely planning on riding it slow. I felt some twinges of Achilles tendon pain towards the very end of my weekend spectacular and it was still there the next morning. I've moved my cleat back a bit and dropped the seatpost a bit in response, but I have no interest in aggravating it. So, I will be the lantern rouge this sunday.

Today I am absolutely determined to get out of work in time to beat the 6:00 gate closing that causes me to take the longer way home!

GB, I hadn't been to Niagara Falls in many years (and then I was on the Canadian side only.) The kitshcy touristy stuff (the Maid of the Mist boat ride, the Cave of the Winds thing) is really quite fun. The hiking was great -- just nonstop gorgeous scenery, and there were very few people on the trails, even on a Saturday. (Of course, we were on the most difficult trail!) For you non-Facebook peeps I'll try to get a few of the pics up on Snapfish or something.

The long-range forecast (for what THAT is worth) shows the temps moderating a bit by next weekend, so I'm still a possible for the Chesapeake Beach ride. I don't have any doubt that I could finish the ride (absent current ridiculous weather conditions), but as I said, my only long ride recently was the century 2 months ago. Also nasty hot (well, mid to upper 80's, which isn't bad, but it was only 1 May, so I definitely was not at all used to any heat.) Still, I averaged only 13.1 mph, I think -- and that was on a perfectly flat ride!

When todays commute was nasty on the AM downhill section, I knew today would be tough.
Isaias I don't know how you managed the miles you did ride yesterday. I drank a full liter in my 12 mile commute. The last few ounces(mls.) were warm bordering on hot, still drank 'em though. It wasn't enough. Summer just started:-( I'm ready for fall. 5 feet of snow sounds pretty good right now.

Bob, those are fantastic pictures! Both of your routes seem to be much more scenic than the one I took (although from just a quick, non-closeup look at the map picture, your return route seems similar to the one I did.)

(I've heard those chickens and roosters many times at that spot on the B&A Trail, and I did see an "escapee" once also! I've always wondered where, exactly, they live . . . )

How was that bridge crossing service? Did you have to reserve it in advance, and did you have a certain window of time to be there?

Edit: Ah, okay, I took a look at the "large" version of your map, and can see the difference. Your route was slightly more to the north of mine (mine was more on Route 404 -- Centreville-Denton-Bridgeville-Georgetown-Dagsboro.)

The bridge crossing service was Kent Island Express (410-604-0486). They said to call one hour before I needed the ride, but they were there in less that 15 minutes. $30 and a very nice driver.

You're right. I likes my state parks and my water views. In particular, I wanted to check out Tuckahoe SP because it looks like a good camping destination.
The area I rode through was very pretty with many trails off to the sides of the road. I didn't really get a detailed sense of the park though.

Tuckahoe is a great place to stage an eastern shore tour or day rides. I started an Eastern shore tour a few years back from there. Went up (above then dropped back ) to Cape Henlopen, De., down to Pocomoke SP then back to Tuckahoe. I think we included Crisfield but I might be getting a few trips mixed up.

I meant to post yesterday, but kept forgetting -- I will be missing out as well. I have to be at work part of the day so I'm going to spend the other part on a short "shakedown cruise" in my new kayak.

Looks like the temps will be a bit milder tomorrow; have fun!

+1, but I guess we'd (err..., I) should quit saying that the ride is "no drop". It was very apparent that when the number of riders increases and the abilities of those riders varies "across the board", that there has to be a line drawn as to who we can wait for.

The front of the pack waits for no one (as embodied by our good friend Janet G and others during this ride.)

Welcome back Harry. Love the pictures. What a great time to be there. So much going on!

Problems always increase with numbers. That's why I kinda prefer the smaller groups. I wonder why people ride"with" others but never really ride with them. What's the point. On the monument to monument ride we were strung along the route but it was easy to move up and talk as well as drop back and talk. Maybe some folks don't want to talk. Heck what do I know, I can't figure out the TDF.

Humid, humid morning commute, sweating like a pig this AM. Anyone get caught in that nasty storm last night. I just missed all of the downpours. Got no rain jacket nor fenders this time of year.
My rear rack on my Miyata, OEM is showing signs of wear(crack). Is this worth getting welded?

I would still call Sunday's ride a no-drop ride. After lunch, I was in the second group of riders. That quickly broke into two groups and I stayed towards the back to be sure the slowpokes were fine. Mostly, it was just Mike, a rider from Mt. Airy who had badly gashed his leg on his CR. He was toughing out the injury, but slowing down a lot. Nicely, NR's group (now the middle)
waited for us at a watering hole, but Mike dropped back even immediately afterwards. Carl, David and I decided to to work on a tighter group. We waited for Mike and got him in the pack, slowed down and after a few miles we were making decent time again. That qualifies as no-drop in my book.

Yucky commute. It's not even all that hot, it's just the humidity.

I went out in it (to get home after work) after the more ferocious winds died down a bit. The rain still stung my face when I had a headwind.

Overall, though... I love riding in the rain when it's warm out.
