Congrats on your first race, Bob! I agree with Harry, you should get a prize just for doing it on a fixie! Were there any others?

I am still sick, did not ride (or do much of anything at all) this weekend. :( I think the cold is gone, but it seems to have morphed right into an exceptionally bad case of my usually moderately bad spring allergies. My throat is constantly and very painfully sore, and I have at least one or two coughing fits per day. Energy level is in the toilet. This year has not been going well for me on the bike. *sigh* I've been living vicariously through everyone's cycling stories! :thumb:

I haven't ridden to work since this plague started, either -- I always seem to feel the absolute worst when I get up in the morning. I might try again tomorrow, depending on what the afternoon thunderstorm forecast says in the morning.

If you want to do a sanctioned race (read: real race as a CAT 5), there's the Illchester hill climb, King Pawn's "Highway to Heaven"

I doubt I'm much of a racer, but NR can get me sprinting up hills after him on occasion.

I remember Josh riding that Ilchester climb one year. (and look what happened to him).
Lukasz owns that ride. As well he should.

NR, you decided on 4th of July this year?

I second that! That's one downer about living in Florida -- no hills.

I'm booked at the same place, again, already! Leaving Friday morning and returning Tuesday.

Anybody else going?

Where are you staying? I'm still debating what to do/where to go . . . I took Friday and Tuesday off, had been pondering riding to Rehoboth Beach instead of OC just to try something different -- but I've never been there at all, not even by car, so I have zero clue about what to expect. It definitely appears that it's much smaller, with far fewer hotel/motel options, than OC.

I thought about camping at Cape Henlopen State Park (although that would require me to haul all my camping crap with me), but they're already booked up for the 4th. I looked at a few Web sites for private campgrounds in the area, too; some of them, I don't know . . . it might be kind of fun to roll up on a bike in the middle of that mullet-sporting, NASCAR flag waving, bad-tattoo-sporting crew. (Yeah, or maybe not . . . Definitely have to remember to strap the American flag onto the rear rack again!)

I'm staying at my usual - the Sea Bay - right next to Hall's all you can eat buffet! :D

I'm going to fly a confederate flag. (just kidding)

That's right... you said that you felt like you received more consideration when flying the stars & stripes! Maybe I'll have to find one, too! ;)

 I still remember the look on the server's face when you ordered that massive breakfast at Layton's. Priceless!

One of the private campgrounds in Delaware that I was checking out online looked like it might have been just the ticket . . . until I read all the reviews that mentioned how the entire place is draped in Confederate flags and other CSA/War of Northern Aggression memorabilia. I know I'd have a hard time restraining myself from at some point blurting out: "Dude. The war is over. The South lost. And Delaware was in the Union!!!"

I'll let you know if I ever get the trip sorted out!

I've had thoughts of an annual Dogfish Head Brewery Ride. Anybody interested in that? I like the hotel Rehoboth, but pricey. Maybe end of summer. A few Dogfish would go down really well after a looong ride.

I love that idea.
There's also Victory brewing in Downington, PA.

@Max - I'll be watching for status from you. If worse comes to worse, we could always share my room. [I promise not to peek as you duck under the covers in your nightie! LOL! By the way, there's only one bed... it's KING SIZED, though! Hah!]

I third the motion that a beer ride is way overdue!

NR, I'm guessing you didn't ride Janet's Civil War Century today.
I rode a hard 45 mile "super commute" after work yesterday. Owings Mills-Ellicott City-BWI-Baltimore. Beautiful weather for it.

I'm still planning on riding a route up and around Lancaster next sunday- a 300K leaving from Lake Montebello. I'll be a whole lot more conservative about whether to ride if the weather looks too hot. I've been thinking about trying HEED during the ride. Who here uses that or similar? -B

No, I didn't do the CWC. I actually had the maps loaded into my Garmin. I had this crazy idea of booking a room for Saturday night in Thurmont, ride to Thurmont on Saturday using these routes:

Ride from Essex to Carroll Park...
http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=257033 (Carroll Park to Franklintown Rd)
http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=217701 (part of In Search of Liberty)
http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=257030 (this route from Sykesville to Thurmont)

...but, the weather looked too iffy for Sunday (and, I came to me senses, more so for the trip back on Sunday night).

So then, I thought I'd ride down to Davidsonville to do the Chesapeake Beach ride, but again, I was concerned about the weather...

Ride from Essex to BWI...
http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=257061 (from BWI to Crofton)
http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=223942 (Crofton to Chesapeake Beach Part 1)
http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=223943 (Crofton to Chesapeake Beach Part 2)
http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=224047 (Crofton to BWI)
Ride from BWI to Essex.

...(and not that fond of riding w/MT all day.)

I finally settled on riding a century, on Saturday, to Thomas Point Park and Bay Ridge Rd south of Annapolis and resting on Sunday.

I've used HEED and Perpetuem. I like the Perpetuem better. To me, it seems to be palatable even once it gets hot. I usually create about 4-5 x 2 scoop servings each in a ziplock bag and then carry those in a cough drop bag to protect them from the ride. To me, HEED tastes like what I would image insecticide would taste like.

I'm on the direct mail program, got tired of running out for Gatorade (hate) so if you need some I got a huge supply, Perpetuem as well.

I used both on that 80 miler down to Ches beach, din't really eat much on the ride and I felt fine. What's the route of the 300K?

I say we do the Dogfish in September when the beach crowds subside, hit the bar then grab a few growlers and head over to poolside.

I'm soaking up the compliments (thanks), but to be fair, there was another single speeder on the course- Patrick, Joe's son who beat me by 30sec. Then again, he's less than half my age, so I'll still take the props.

Harry, here's my route for sunday: http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Cour...?course=257924
cueing is not done yet cause I'm still getting the hang of BRToaster. (Bikely seems like it's on its last breaths)
