While not as ambitious as GBs 300K ride it is riding on a few rough segments. Probably jarring a few teeth loose.

So I was going to ask if you were doing that Catonsville ride, when I went to the site, and clicked through to the ride flyer, and look whose name is on it!! :thumb:

If I'm not too hung over from my friend's bachelorette party Saturday night, I might ride over to Catonsville for this. Actually, I shouldn't be hung over at all, since I am in charge of getting the bride and the maid of honor home to Towson in one piece. It's more a question of will I be able to get my not-enough-sleep butt out of bed in time?

Hey, Charlie!! Nice to hear from you. We hope to see you on a ride soon.

Catonsville rail trails are a cool ride, hope you all have a blast

I've been busy planning a three day camping tour of the eastern shore, I'll be sure to post a link to my ride log here for you all. Happy bike to work day!

Where are you thinking of camping? I did a bike camping trip last year, stayed at Trap Pond State Park in Delaware, and Janes Island State Park in MD. I'm pondering another trip over on the Eastern Shore.

I'm going to ride from my house to lums pond st park about 70 mi
Lums pond to cape henlopen
Then either henlopen to the bay bridge and get picked up or henlopen to assateaque(sp) island then home.

After each night it is only about 60-70 miles back to the bridge no matter the destination so this is my fail safe. Just ordered my new ultralight hammock!

Sounds like a cool trip, can't wait to hear about it! I had been thinking of heading over to Cape Henlopen/Rehoboth for a 4th of July trip -- I've never been there (by any conveyance.) ;)

Hey dspaff: Still haven't ridden w/ you and we are so close. Probably passed each on the C-ville roads. Enjoy your tour. Ultralight Hammock, nice. I'm looking for a Cuben fiber tarp-tent for my tours. Less than 1/2 lb:)

Hope y'all enjoyed bike to work day. I went to the Carroll park stop. Saw Rod and his wife on their tandem. I'm off to pick up my daughter from school....youngest 2 kids graduated this year. We are done w/ tuition payments!

dspaff088 05-21-11 07:55 AM

Ugh student loans... Why'd you remind me haha

Yeah the hammock just seems like a really cool idea, just using a tarp as a rain fly with some rope so hopefully all goes well and the weather is better than this past week

Charlie, how did the Catonsville Rails to Trails Ride go? I wish I could have made it.

I didn't party too much Saturday -- :p -- as I said, I was the d.d. for the bride and maid of honor, so I had one glass of wine at Wine in the Woods, and another at dinner in Ellicott City, and then it was sodas the rest of the night. But by the time I got home from dropping everyone off, it was 3:15 a.m. and I was feeling like crap. I'd started feeling like I was getting sick Thursday afternoon, and from Friday morning on, I kept up a steady stream of OTC drugs flowing so I could get through my other friend's wedding Friday night, and Saturday's bachelorette festivities. I was PUT-A-FORK-IN-ME-DONE  when I woke up Sunday. Spent all day today lying on the couch drinking hot tea with honey; I feel a bit better now, but my voice is still a whispery croak.

And of course, the weather forecast for Memorial Day weekend doesn't look too great! :notamused: But that's still a way off, maybe it will get better . . .

Max, I saw the pix from the BP on Facebook. Looks like everyone was having a great time. Nice photo set.

How about a flickr/snapfish/photobucket link? Or, toss some pics up here.

Sorry. None of the pics were in any of those archives. They were all on the Facebook picture archive.

You juet need to find two trees on teh eastern shore that are close enough together. I know they have them just spaced out.

Camped at Henlopen summer before last with kids, great place, but fills up. Quite a large Mass contingent.

GB-What is that Connecticut ride you're doing?

When I first heard about Total 200 it seemed like a great way to ride a double. Then I read a few ride reports/blog posts and they all seem like they are centered around how hard everyone "hammered" and how you have to fight not to get dropped because if you do you'll never see the pack again. That is what turned me off to it.

Yah, I registered a while back. I know, looks like hammer heads but I'm not going to worry about that. I know a few people that are joining, including Nigel, and so I'll be in good company. I'm not interested in riding the whole 200 in a pace line, not fun.
The route is kind of non scenic as it looks like they are taking the main arteries down there. My goal will be to keep moving, brief stops, including lunch. I'll be using aero bars-GASP!

I hope to do some long rides before then, 140 this week but need that to be more like 200, and might want to do a back to back 75 to 80 mile ride. Possibly ride out to Cunningham Falls and camp then ride back. Or maybe ride down to Point Lookout, camp and ride back. Any takers?

May be signing up for the Adventure Corps Death Valley double in October, also one in August up in PA. Nightmare Double or some such.

I picked out a few of the pics, and put them on Snapfish.

http://www1.snapfish.com/harley/thum...D_NAME=harley/

Hope this works . . . I haven't used Snapfish in forever, but I remember it being a lot easier. I wanted to caption the photos, but no matter what I clicked on, I never did see the "organize and edit" tab that the help section claims is on the right-hand side of the screen.

maxine 05-23-11 01:31 PM

Hmm. I don't think that will work. When I click on it, it takes me to my log-in screen. I used to use Flickr, too, but that seems to have also gotten way more complicated. ("Batches" and "Sets" and lions and tigers, oh my! JHC on a popsicle stick, all I want to do is throw a few pics into an album, and put a few captions on 'em!!!)

I guess I've gotten spoiled by Facebook, which for all of its faults (there are many!) makes it super easy to put up pics and caption them.

Will fool with this later. I'm afraid if I just post them right to BikeForums, they'll be GIGANTIC on the screen! :)

Ride was great. Too bad you didn't make it. I think we had 45 riders in all. Many different skill levels which makes leading difficult. I actually hung back with the slow group to ensure their safety at major road crossings. I kept the pace slow but a few of our hills took their toll on the slowest of the group. The fast group seemed to have no problems. All in all a good day. I now have empathy for GB and his cued rides. Everything falls on the leader, the weather, hills, distance, lost cyclist etc..... But like GB we did not drop a rider. Those that could not complete the ride were either escorted back or put on an safe easy road to return. Charlie

maxine 05-23-11 01:50 PM

Trying again! I'm pretty sure anyone can get to this.

Wow, 45 riders, that's quite a turnout!! Wish I could have made it. :( Hope you got a decent donation amount. Yes, I have the utmost respect for anyone who leads a formal, organized ride -- that can be a lot of work.

Got a question for the gallery: I think I'm in the right here but one of you guys/gals who knows more about the bike/traffic laws than me might be able to help. Over the last couple days, I've been riding up Charles Street from Penn Station like I always do after work. I usually ride in the middle of the right lane because it's a one way street. On two occasions, two different drivers have angrily passed on the right side of me in the same lane. Obviously these people are also not following the law because that's reckless. But, am I legally allowed to ride in the middle of a lane on a one way street? The MVA page seems to indicate that I can but it hasn't been updated in a few months. I thought I could.

I ride this route up to Towson and there are some areas where traffic eases up because there are 3-4 lanes. I haven't had any issues claiming an entire lane when traffic let's up but legally I think you are to always remain on the far right edge ofthe right lane

I'd heard of the Dirt Road Randonee before, but I'd never checked out the Web site. Cool cool cool! Makes me want to dig out the old knobby cyclocross tires that came with my Airborne. :) Which length are you going to ride?
