Today's wet ride--Frederick Pedalers 2009 Century:
http://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/26859 Go Maxine!!! <--- Just sent her this text message. |
I just got in, it's wet out there. So impressed that Maxine is doing this!
|
NR, Charlie,
I just got in from a nasty couple hours of driving. Anyway, I'll be at the southern corner of Carroll park tomorrow at 8:30AM. The idea was that NR and i (and any others who are game) would ride to Charlie's house. Then, he would escort us to Max's soggy encampment in Columbia. If we see you at Carroll park then great, we can decide what to do then OR if we don't see you I'll assume you are at your house and we'll start riding there. See ya. |

Considering those folks had been riding off and on for 23 hours (I left at 1500), they looked rather spry.
The wind and hill right before the finish line would have pissed me off, though. |

I was there then! I must have JUST missed you guys. I was wearing a red polo and black hat. I was looking for Maxine's Airborne but never saw it.

Actually, the only spot on the course at which I approached anything close to high speed happened to be the corner at which NoRacer, greaterbrown, and Charlie had pulled up to call me. As I was whizzing through the turn, I heard my name and vaguely saw (I don't ride with my glasses :)) some human forms jumping around and waving. After much arm-twisting by the guys (HA! again), I left the Booty course to go have a beer at a pub in Columbia. I guess that was around 11:00 or so? We got back around 1:30 or so, and I reconnected with my teammate; we rode a lap or two, then decided to break our camp so that would be all done, and then go back for the ceremonial "last lap," which started at 3:50. More details and photos soon. |
We gotta' work on our coordination.
I actually saw three guys riding down 175 right by the truck stop while I was heading to the event but it was across 9,000 lanes of traffic so I just kept on pedaling. I thought it might be y'all. How to spot me: ABRT/Latitude kit (mostly white with blue, green, black and gold) and mismatched red helmet. I also generally sport an unshaven face because I'm a bit lazy. :) |
Today's ride to Columbia to visit Maxine during her 24 Hours of Booty ride dedicated to her dad:

Maxine, awesome dudette! Did you get those chocolate covered coffee beans, if so how did they work out? I've been sort of working the Baltimore Book Festival (more like making sure the table was stalked with stuff, getting bored and running off to do more interesting stuff.) I decided to dress in street cloths Saturday and then I got caught in the rain on the way home, got totally soaked in blue jeans, not fun at all. My GPS reset in the rain so I lost my year to date millage, nothing compared to some guys here but still I am a bit aggravated about that.

Was a great day. Enjoyed riding and drinking w/ you guys.
Good job Max. NR, read your blog/twitter, whatever it is. I liked the cue sheet..."follow Charlie" You know you're in trouble if that is your best option. What was the rest of Rt1 like. Shame to miss rizz and trek. rizz I believe that was us. Headed over Wigley then north. Not exactly a scenic portion of the ride. Harry, what happened, more details please. GB, hope you made your jam session on time. |

@Harry--what's up with this surgery biz? I'm not proud so let's just say I needed to have some posterior tweaking done, this required surgery. I had done a 12 mile(11.7) mile pre run of the Balt Marathon course last week, did okay too 2:15 with a long pee break. Anyway when I finished I realized I had some "issues". Saw my GP and he gave me a referral to a surgeon, surg says "oh boy" you need surgery. So Friday I go to Mercy for ass work, sit in the pre op for like four F-ing hours, nurses sweet as can be, and nurses are just so sexy, so it wasn't that bad. The worst wasn't the surgery, you're all hopped up on morphine and talking s--- when you get out. But that night I took two of the oxycodone that they prescribed, got up at like 2am to take a leak, leaning against the wall as I do so, next thing I know my wife is yelling at me to wake up, I'm on the floor. total blackout. Gets better. I have to get up again to take some more pills. last thing I remember is standing over the counter, next my wife is screaming at me again to wake up. This time she was freaked even more because I wasn't coming round. I whacked my head in like three places, skinning the back of my scalp. I also hit the back of my shoulder bad against the tub surround so my neck and back are sore. No worries though, hope to be running by midweek, hopefully enough time to get in some short runs before the marathon. Still having headaches and haven't taken any of that narcotic crap since Friday so a bit concerned. What are the symptoms of a concussion anyway? I've got a new cog ordered for my fixie, the 48-16 is just too much for street riding. I'm trying a twenty in the back, see how that goes. Cut off some old drop bars and made some bull horns bars, the short rounded bar that came with it is cool but not practical for off-track. Also ordered a 24t ring for my Trek touring bike, the stock granny is known to be way small for loaded touring, not that I have any touring planned. |
@hc203  Wow! Glad you didn't hurt yourself anymore than you did. Get well, man.
|
Harry: BUMmer(pun intended). You're going to need one of these
http://www.shopwiki.com/_TERRY+LIBER...72813&s=44227& Hope you heal quickly and get back to riding. Chilly commute this morning but a pretty sunrise. Finally went to long pants and a long sleeve top. Poly gloves would have been nice. |

Pretty much 174 to 175 right to the spot. I live in Glen Burnie.
@Charlie; Rt 1 all of the way back into B'more was more of the same--not scenic, direct, but really no problems with motor vehicles. |
Harry: Wow!!! Take it easy, don't try to push yourself too hard too soon!
So, I'm working on a ride report for "24 Hours of Booty," I'll put it up here when it's done. I posted a bunch of pictures on Facebook. An interesting experience! The weather was a real challenge, as was (for me, anyway) the 4:15 p.m. start time. It really played havoc with my usual century-ride eating and resting routines. I only rode 124 miles total, 76 of those on the first day/night. :( (And, yes, I'm counting the pub detour miles! :D) I really expected I'd do more than that! I was thinking, sheesh, I've done several MS150 rides -- 100 miles on Saturday, 50 on Sunday. What's my problem? Of course, those 100 miles are done starting at 7:00 a.m. after a good night's sleep, as are the 50 miles the next day, over a total of about 30 hours or so, not 24. All in daylight, and I've never had to do one in a day-long downpour. But still. Barry, I never did pick up chocolate-covered coffee beans. I did buy just some regular beans in the supermarket coffee aisle, and I had eaten a few the day before as an experiment. I decided I could tolerate them. But I didn't have them with me at first -- I was going to put them in my bento box for the night-time portion -- but once the dark and the pouring rain hit, I figured I'd better not stop back at my tent to get them, or the temptation to just stay there would be too strong! They were serving coffee non-stop in the meal area, though, so I pulled off for a cup around 10:00 p.m., and then had another at the "Midnight Pizza Party." Harry, that Leadville movie looks cool! I'd like to see it. Columbia (Snowden Square) is the closest theater to me, but if anyone wants to do a group outing, I'm happy to go elsewhere. |

Maybe there's a way to do a group ride to one of the theatres, a night ride of course.
However, I'm fine with a scoot down to Columbia if someone gives me a decent route. |
