I love that you rode the tour de chase, Isaias. I've been wanting to ride more of the casual rides, just to see what's going on there. Way to go. -GB
It's kind of neat to see folks who are just starting out--some of them graduates of the BBC's Instructional Ride Series. Bud led and much of the time I "swept" since I was the only one riding with a lit tailight the entire ride--came in handy on the busier roads to give other road users "heads-up". |

Ride went great. Felt strong throughout. Finished in 9 hrs 10 minutes. (don't know what my on bike time was) Did lots of riding with Harry's friend Bennett. I did run 11 miles on Saturday, pre run of the Balt half marathon course. Ran from Patt Prk up the east side (pretty) to L Montebello-over 33rd (all up) and then down St. Paul back to the harbor and Patt Prk. I won't describe my post run ailments, but I am out of commish for a few days. |

Nice little report. It does sound kind of silly or at least geeky, secret controls and all. Along the lines of geocaching. I would still like to try Paris Brest Paris someday, and a good excuse to go back to Paris.

Great write-up on the brevet, GB! And you made NR sound so . . . mysterious.
Well, the Airborne is all clean and shiny, new tires, headlights re-installed (I had swiped the NOBs from it to put on the 520 for commuting -- I've had replacement NOBs for a while, just never got around to putting them on), new batteries in all the helmet and bike lights. I have NO IDEA what I'm getting myself into for the Booty ride, but I'm just going to have as much fun as possible. Which is more or less my general approach to most things in life, I guess, known or unknown. ;) If you guys make it out there, give me a call. I'll set my cell phone to "stun" to be sure I wake up -- errrrrr, NOTICE it. :D |

Unfortunately my mind wanders and I would miss a station thus would not "get credit". Harry: PBP has been on my mind as well but in all seriousness I doubt I could complete it. A few years ago maybe, these days doubt it. But I am thinking about L'Eroica http://www.eroica.it/index_en.php Trek: crank the wrench and have some beer. Have y'all seen this light? Cheap as it gets and 900 lumen:eek: http://www.geomangear.com/index.php?...roducts_id=138 People in the lighting forum are wetting their pants over it. Everything for $89 is really tough to beat. |

I guess it might as well be a wet one. I'll be there rain or shine sunday morning, hopefully with NR and Charlie too. I'll just make up a schedule right now- howsabout I leave Hampden at 8AM. Get to Charlie's around 9AM, git to Columbia around 10AM get to Victoria's around 12PM and start heading back home around 1PM? Go Max! |

Yes, the weather forecast is looking "ish" (as an old friend of mine used to say.) But, hey, as long as I'm able to get my tent set up while the skies are still dry (which it looks like I will be), I'm happy. My tent has been through absolutely torrential thunderstorms; nary a drop gets inside. I  my tent.
As for the riding, oh, well -- I've ridden through a few day-long downpours (and I recall a Seagull Century that was not only rainy, but windy and cold as well!) The low temps are expected to be 55-60, so that's not bad at all, and the weather is supposed to get nicer as Sunday progresses. I haven't done a night-time rainy ride (except for the occasional getting caught on the commute home, but that's only 45 minutes, tops.) I'll be fine. The rain will just give me one more thing to ***** about -- errrrrr, focus on -- so I don't get bored. :) Charlie, the ride officially ends at 4:00 on Sunday afternoon -- they do a "last victory lap" or something at 3:45. My plan is to ride through as much of the night as I can, maybe catch a 90 minute nap or so in the wee hours (maybe I'll wait 'til when it's raining the hardest, LOL!) and be back out again by sunrise or so. So if all goes well, I should be upright and rolling whatever time you all arrive on Sunday. |
Oh, sorry, forgot to answer Charlie's question about our sleeping arrangements.
All the riders will be camping (if they want to) on the lawn next to the Merkle building -- 7001 Columbia Gateway Drive. So the route won't literally go in front of where the tents are. Family and friends are encouraged to support riders, but I don't know the details on where they let you go. I know they don't want non-participants on the course, which is closed off with cones. (Basically, as I understand it, it's one lane of the Columbia Gateway loop; the other lane is open to car traffic.) There was a map on the Booty Web site -- I forwarded it to somebody, maybe Bob? a while back. It's hard to find, though (their Web site layout isn't the greatest, IMHO.) |
MOntgomery county here. Wanting to get a group together to bike. Trying to train to start racing

Heck, come out to Columbia and meet a few of us as we cheer on Maxine. |
I was thinking about going to cheer on Maxine too. I also want to see that expo I read about on the Booty site. I thought it was Saturday as well, was I wrong? Which would be the better day?
rizz, I'd be interested in some of those rides. I am in Montgomery County. |
