The first climb is about 7 miles long. It's not steep, but...well, it's long. Same for the second highest climb, except it's only about 4 miles long.

Thinking maybe I'll finally get an "easier" cassete aside from my 12-23 for this lol

instructions 05-05-11 12:45 PM

Just signed up for the civil war century also..... feeling a little scared about this.

I like to think of the CWC event as just a pre-ride for the New Year's Eve version. ;)

BTW great ride report of Crush the Commonwealth here: http://hellopa.wordpress.com/2011/05...onwealth-2011/
(lotta pics, it loads real slow)

D2R2 is my big out-of-town ride for the year. Next year, crush the commonwealth- philly to p'burgh.

Eric, the guy who wrote the blog entry, rode with a guy named Lane. I know Lane through the D.C. Randonneurs and have ridden with him a few times. Strong, great guy, but occasional problems with a knee.

man both those rides sound serious.

Tons of fun riding in a big pack at the beginning. And then it strings out and you make some good friends

The Crush the Commonwealth was a good read. Keep me posted on your plans for that. Your June Chesapeake Beach Rando, what's the date?

According to a post by Bob on the BBC forums, the Chesapeake Beach rando ride will be June 26th.

Thank you Max. Where you been riding recently?
NR and I are thinking it's high time for a MD Peeps beer ride.

Where have I been riding recently? Not far enough away, and not far enough! :( My riding lately has been pretty much limited to biking to work, and occasional short-ish spins around the airport. Too much crap going on -- stuff with the family (= more trips to PA than usual); I'm in a wedding in June, in Trinidad, so there's all of THAT activity, exacerbated by the fact that I'm one of only two "wedding chicks" :) that's here in the States with the B&G; another good friend is getting married next Friday night. Plus the usual other stuff (pool teams in playoffs, I spent a weekend kayaking, blah blah blah.) I really need to get rid of this "work" thing -- it's totally cramping my style! :D

I've really been itching for another out-of-town, multi-day bike trip -- and with that in mind, I even bought a GPS!! (Which I haven't yet had time to learn how to use. :p)

In the near-term, though, I'll give two :thumb::thumb: to another MD Peeps Beer Ride!

The 26th? That is the day after the Total 200! What's an extra hundred? I'm in.

Whoa! are you really thinking about that ride?
When I first heard about Total 200 it seemed like a great way to ride a double. Then I read a few ride reports/blog posts and they all seem like they are centered around how hard everyone "hammered" and how you have to fight not to get dropped because if you do you'll never see the pack again. That is what turned me off to it.

greaterbrown 05-12-11 01:22 PM

Max, you've been a busy bee. Hard to be sympathetic though. Trinidad, playoffs, kayaking.

 :p

I know, right??? Although my head has been spinning, it *has* been mostly enjoyable activities that have displaced the biking (but I'll have to regale you over beers with the bizarre stories of how preparations for the Trinidad wedding have been going!!)

(I'll continue to whine about work, though . . . ;))

dspaff088 05-12-11 04:30 PM

I briefly thought about doin the total 200 as a double is my next cycling goal. But 130$, not knowing anyone, and most likely getting dropped doesn't sound like a great time lol.

To the fella commuting by bike on Reisterstown Rd in the reisterstown/owings mills area...
You are my hero. Every time I see you I get jealous that I am not on my bike, pedaling away. You are also smart about it! You wear bright and reflective clothing (plus proper cold weather gear) and when I've seen you at night you've had proper lighting, too! If only more cyclists were like you.
I wish I was not too much of a coward to brave Reisterstown Road!
Maybe, just maybe he'll see this, and he'll know that at least someone out there isn't raging in their car because he is riding his bike on a busy street.

greaterbrown 05-16-11 02:50 PM

I saw that comment. Nate Evans thought it might be me, but nope.

Hey folks: I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Soon I will have more time to play. What an insane 2 months. Beer ride sounds good. Hope to make GBs June ride. Catonsville Rail to Trail is also planning a ride.
http://www.catonsvillerailstotrails.org/
While not as ambitious as GBs 300K ride it is riding on a few rough segments. Probably jarring a few teeth loose.
