Looks like you may have a good turnout. Where is the proposed lunch stop?

dspaff088 04-26-11 11:46 AM

"BTW, the monument is still there."

haha nice

the weather outlook looks good for now, is this going to go off rain or shine?

Hope so. Lunch is at Union Station.

Yep, rain or shine. The logistics of rain dates just doesn't make sense for these rides. I run them whatever the weather. Phooey on ride leaders who cancel rides for "chance of rain". My guess is, they didn't want to ride and didn't consider riders who do. I figure riders who show up in nasty weather can decide what they want to do and the leader should be there to make it happen.

On another note: I really cooked myself good yesterday. Sunburn so bad that I feel a little sick, I'm embarrassed to say.
I'm such dumba$$. I was only thinking about the beauty of the day and just rode hard without a break all the way down. I didn't bring sunscreen, didn't eat and drink frequently enough. I was really dragging on my last few miles into B'more. I got caught on the wrong side of a loooooong CSX train on Hollins Ferry, just standing in the hot sun. Ugh. I should be fine by Sunday.

As a test, I never dropped below a 2:1 gearing yesterday so, I may bring the single. No speed on the flats though. It might put me in contention for the coveted Lantern Rouge.

Hey NR wanna try the radios again?

dspaff088 04-26-11 01:59 PM

Sun was killer these past few days, my jersey tan is coming in nicely

see everyone sunday

HC203 04-26-11 06:48 PM

burn

With my dome I am more aware of the effects of the sun than most. These are the very first days of the scorchers so you can be excused for forgetting to slather on. I got a bit cooked the other day in the back yard. So, now it's chamois butter and sunscreen before every ride, actually sun screen whenever I'm out, period.

There is a guy on my team who is strong but rides a mt bike with slicks with very low gearing, or is it high? Not sure but he just can't reach the speeds that we can on road bikes. So if you bring your fixie you'll have company on the flats. Two women from the team may join, one is definite, both experienced riders on road bikes.

M to M

3 riders will be joining the M to M riding from the Dixon parking lot on BWI. Nigel Samaroo and two others.

Radios: Per our email correspondence, I'll make a decision Sunday morning.

So, welcome to the club, as far as feeling cooked goes. I've been fighting the winds from the south for 3 days in a row--hoping that they'll change after the cold front passes through today. Regardless, I think I'll be at the back of the group Sunday. I really need to start to pay attention to my re-hydration between rides; not doing enough. It's starting to make me rethink my annual OCMD ride on July 4th.

instructions 04-28-11 12:14 PM

so yes I post once in a while:

2 of my friends are planning on coming along too. I'm not doing it fixed tho:)

greaterbrown 04-28-11 02:40 PM

As long as our weather holds, I bet we'll have a big group. Should be fun.
I'm bringing the surly, 39 x 16 freewheeling.

greaterbrown 04-29-11 03:57 PM

dspaff,
been following CTC? they're off.

qmsdc15 04-29-11 07:35 PM

I live near the 40 mile mark, so I might solo to Baltimore for the start, join the group for the Baltimore to DC leg and back to my neck of the woods (plan B).

Plan C, catch you as you come through my neighborhood, ride to DC and back to B'more with you all, then solo home.

Plan A is stay home and watch TV.

Can't decide...

I've got 1558 views of the M2M post on the ramble blog. Think all those people are coming?

That would be awesome haha

And yeah I even found a group to do the ctc with but I've been having some conflicts with the doctors. Pretty bummed. Maybe next year tho

qmsdc15 04-30-11 07:03 PM

Would it be OK for me to join your group forty miles into your ride and do the rest of it with you?

What kind of average speed do you think you'll be going?

What time do you expect to get back to Baltimore?

greaterbrown 04-30-11 08:32 PM

Off to bed soon. Sure we'd love to have you on this one however you wanna ride it. 15mph is usually a 9-10 hour day including stops. I'm sure some will be faster and some slower. We'll try to regroup at lunch and rests. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

qmsdc15 05-01-11 06:42 AM

Thanks!

I went to bed before seeing your reply. I went to bed planning to get up really early and ride to the start, but when the alarm went off it was really early and I went back to sleep. I have laundry and other things to do. It's easier and probably smarter just to just stay home.

Now upon seeing your friendly welcome, I think I will try to find you on the road. The problem that occurred to me is that if I follow you back to B'more, I might not make it home before dark. So, I may leave before the finish.

Seems funny to join the ride in the middle and leave before the end, but I might do just that.

I don't have a printer, so no cue sheet. This was a factor in deciding not to ride solo to the start because I don't know the way.

If I get dropped or lost, no problem. I can find my way home.

dspaff088 05-01-11 07:26 PM

Did anyone else get mysteriously sunburned today??? Maybe it's my ginger blood haha

Great ride, look forward to doing more of them to come and other bbc rides

Cheers

If you dressed like you did for your avatar photo, I'm not surprised!

I uploaded pictures of the ride here.

I joined the ride around mile 35 and rode to the finish. I enjoyed riding with you all. Fun! Thanks Bob!

Hey dspaff and qmsdc I don't even know who you are! Damn this internet anonymity. ID yourself in one of the pics.
Thanks for coming all.

Black and white with the red helmet

I had to make the decision between the groups and went with the first one thinking incurs just drop off if it was too bad. This was only my second century ride and my first one was alot rougher and slower. I was really pumped to stick with the group for the ride. Was a great event and I am definitely looking forward to more.
