hey John,

reasonable points, but what kind of bike do you think Harry should buy? did you sign up for the tour de yellow bracelet?

greaterbrown 04-16-11 11:32 AM

I guess that killed the politics

Who has May 1st blocked off on their calendar?

no need for all that serious banter anyway, religion and politics never make friends

I go into work tonight at 5 and first thing on the agenda is to request off May 1st, I remember seeing pictures from years past about this ride and it looks awesome. So I will be making my first appearance at one of these randorambles come the first of the month. Since its "sponsored" by the bbc, are there liability sheets that need to be signed before hand like some other groups do?

There were just few enough riders last year that I was able to get signatures on the liability sheet, but there are limits. I'll bring several sheets and see how crazy it gets.

Time off request officially submitted

The last time I rode up it was with the DC Randonneurs starting from Rockville. The climb is not very intense.

dspaff088 04-19-11 04:07 PM

Well i set off for sugarloaf at 9 am. It was 45 miles to the base and I made it 35 before the rain got bad and my luck ran out. I suffered my first real wipe out going too fast around a corner. Road rash all over and my body is on fire lol. Sucks because today was one of those days where I felt like I could have ridden for 500 miles without getting tired.

I'll be back for more sugarloaf, oh I'll be back.

greaterbrown 04-19-11 08:50 PM

dspaff,
I'd be up for some sugarloaf exploring. I've been wanting to get in some harder off road training. I'm registered for D2R2 and gotta get my ass in shape.
I've been looking at trying some of this guys rides. http://www.bikely.com/listpaths/by/ridelugged
my days off are sunday and monday.

I linked my first post on this thread in case anyone forgot who I am.

I've done a lot of cycing on the eastern shore and I really liked the roads over there. I've been thinking about exploring more of the state, especially the areas to the west and panhandle. Any recommendations?

I rode the western Maryland rail trail a few weeks back, newly paved well kept trail and pretty scenic ride. Follows the c&o trail most of the way which is another nice ride if you are Looking for more of a tour of md

work4bike 04-20-11 07:57 AM

Forgot to mention I've ridden the C&O canal from D.C. to Harpers Ferry, been meaning to ride it to the northern terminus. I've also ridden the entire Great Allegheny Passage http://www.atatrail.org/. But was curious of a more freelance approach to see all the neat out-of-the-way towns. Just curious of general road conditions, not that the road conditions will stop me:D

dspaff088 04-20-11 08:02 AM

Well if your looking for small weird towns I've found the best way is to pick a big town, say westminister and then get directions via maps.google.com and select bicycle directions. This has sent me down some of the smallest country roads, reminds me of central va.

Sounds like you are pretty familiar with the area already :)

Wow, 289 pages of responses to the "who's in MD" thread. Thats moderately awesome. I'm actually in NW DC but work in Silver Spring and spend a fair amount of time riding the CCT. With the Civil War sesquicentennial coming up are there any rides of note around or to places like Antietam? I'm not far from Ft. Stephens but thats not much of a ride as most of the battle field is apartments and retail stores.

maryland tour de france

So being a fantasy sports junky, and the tdf approaching i got turned onto this

http://www.mapmyride.com/tdf/

basically you can make a league, like fantasy football. Everyday there is a stage you ride as much as you can and try and beat everyone else in your league. What if we created a BF/Md Thread league? 39$ per team and winner gets a yellow jersey. So we get a half dozen people set up a paypal to drop 5$ in and the winner gets a jersey haha

I think it sounds pretty cool, and if we got 6-12 people to do it, it would be a fun BF competiton.

let me know if anyone is interested im going to send out emails to some people from my old team

cheers

I'm so tempted to resume the political silliness, but I'll refrain as this is a biking blog.

GB-I am a tentative go for May1. Woman on my Ride for the Feast team says she is a definite. Strong rider, she should have no trouble.

Our fundraiser at Gertrude's is the night before so...

The century route (103 miles) hits the South Mountain, Antietam, and Gettysburg battlefields.

Bring Evan. It'd be good training.

Sounds like it's right on the mark, thanks Maxine.

Hah, no way I would bring sons on the monument ride, unless we were doing it in two days (an idea for future reference)

At least two people on my Feast team that are definites, maybe three plus me-if I'm better.

Virus from hell! Can't shake it. Did 53 miles yesterday, easy and flat, virus didn't like this, passed out behind the wheel last night while picking up my son, crazy!!
So, if I feel better I am a definite.

erileykc 04-25-11 05:46 PM

Looks like a great ride. Unfortunately 127 miles is a bit beyond my endurance point these days. My last 65 miler was getting up toward my limits although a fair bit of that was urban which is far less fun.
