I've never been a fan of the blackout date concept. I think club members should have chioices, and the kind of rider who is more likely to come out for your Charm and Grace ride might not be the kind who is eager to drive to Taneytown for a picnic ride, anyway. However, them's the rules, so . . . obviously you can't put it on the club calendar, and your FB posts probably shouldn't call it a BBC ride, either. Even at that, some noses might still get out of joint, but whatevs, as the kids say. I'll be out of town that weekend, so I'll miss all the fireworks!

Those that would be offended will be greatly offended. IMHO while the club is small, black out dates should be respected but once a critical mass is achieved, black out dates become more of an advisory. It's up to you to figure out what size the BBC is.

I think It would be cool if you could do a Rambo ride that intersected the picnic, everyone wins. Just my two cents.

Just did that Tour de Montes, whoa, that's some climbing, and HEAT. Well run, great people. I probably shouldn't have scheduled back to back epics with the Total 200 being last Saturday. I only did 160 of the Total 200, snapped rear cable at mile 110 which turned me into a 2 speed for twenty miles. I had a spare cable but the bike tech couldn't fix so we rigged up two easier gears and I did another 25. The route they take isn't particularly interesting and some sections with heavy traffic. Wide shoulders but not a fan of sharing the road with the new breed of shiny souped up pick up trucks that the good ol boys are driving these days. Still, I think I would try it again. As for TDM, I did an 80, a 90, and a 75 on the last day. The climbing is epic and I'm determined to become better at it. I particularly like Wolfsville Rd from the west and going up 77 from the east. Again though less traffic would be good.

Way to go Harry. You've been tearing up the miles this year. I'm guessing Max and NR were headed home today.

Wow, Harry, TdM is definitely the toughest event, by far, on the BBC calendar, and to do it right after the Total 200 is just . . . wow! Well done!

I came home today (gotta work tomorrow ); NR is heading back tomorrow. I fell asleep on the couch gotta get to bed, so more details later, but, for me, it was a fun, relaxing outing. 80 miles from the park and ride to 61st Street in OC on Saturday; 20 miles of slow moseying around with NR on Sunday; 77 miles back today. (The bonus miles on Saturday were courtesy of my unsuccessful attempt to find a rest room in Denton.)

(Oh, and I failed in my GB-assigned mission to get NR into a bathing suit and into the ocean. Despite all of my whining and complaining about how he was costing me free rounds from GB, NR was having none of it. Had to settle for a bike ride on the Boardwalk. Maybe GB will buy me a soda for that. ) I hit the ocean for a bit on Sunday; the water felt wonderful!

BTW Barry, the BBC loves your idea of Rambling to the picnic. They gave me the OK to add the ride to the schedule. The only one to "break" the black out.

The BBC Taneytown Picnic Intercept.

This is what old-school randonneuring is all about- a ride into the country for a picnic lunch. We'll leave from the Conservatory at the MD Zoo in Baltimore heading north on Park Heights and into the "Velvet Valley". Here we veer west crossing Reisterstown and over Lake Liberty on the newly completed Deer Park bridge. Passing through Carroll co. farms, we stay south of Westminster and head up Trevanion rd. to the BBC's summer picnic in Taneytown.

The picnic is $15/members and $18/non for a wide range of foods. WE MUST REGISTER AND PAY FOR THE PICNIC BEFORE JULY 12. Everyone on the ride is welcome to socialize at the picnic, but to eat you must pay. You can easily find foods in town if you chose. The break in Taneytown will be about an hour. The route out of town drops south through Union Bridge, then uses a long beautiful stretch of Sams Creek rd. We bear east along Obrecht rd, through Sykesville and take the easy way down into Marriottsville. A climb out of the valley and east on Frederick rd gets us into Ellicott City. We'll take the trolley trail, Edmondson and Franklintown rd back to our start.

Maxine, it was fun! I hope we can do it again some time. Maybe next time, you can get an extra day in there and we can do the New Jersey ride.

I'm trying not to think about it, but maybe that's the problem.

It *was* fun, I had a great time! Yeah, I think we've exhausted the entertainment value of riding up and down Coastal Highway so maybe the necessity of riding somewhere else will be my incentive to finally get my fat/slow/old [bleep] to go a little faster!

(Speaking of which . . . I think it might be possible to ride from OC to Chincoteague without going so far inland -- Google says you can run straight down the barrier island from Assateague. I'll be camping at the Assateague National Seashore July 28-31; I'm going to bring a bike and check it out.)

I overslept on Saturday morning and got off to a far later start than I had planned; the drive to the park & ride was horrendous, traffic-wise. I was soooo happy to finally get out of my car and on the bike, and I was tickled to be keeping up with the bumper-to-bumper traffic on MD 404. I averaged 14.5 mph for the first 37 miles . . . and then the headwinds hit. My average for the whole 80 miles ended up being 12.0. Between the wind and the heat, with which I don't cope especially well, those final 15 miles or so to NR's hotel were really wearing me down. I guess carrying 20 pounds of stuff didn't help matters any, although at least this year I was doing it on the lighter Airborne (my Trek 520 is still in the shop.)

I had headwinds for almost the whole ride back, although they weren't as strong as the ones I'd hit coming down; my return average was also 12.0.

Greetings from a lost soul. Glad to see NR and Max do the 4th trip again. Lots of miles NR, I thought you told me you were only riding 10K this year....only riding 10K!! And Harry cranking, must be a slim dude by now. Even a squeak from our New Yorker friend. GB, leading another....I'm planning on riding as of now. I can always bum a ride back from someone at the picnic if I falter. I really like the map and cue that ridewithGPS produce. I've been playing with it and seems like one of the better ones out there. Does anyone know the differences between the free vs $50/yr.
I plan on riding Bob Moore's memorial hope to see some of you guys down there.

Bikely has been really pooping out recently. Half the time I can't even get onto their servers. Ride w/GPS seems like the best new kid on the block. I signed up for the premium membership, so that I can create better cue sheets. It really is not much more than that. Worth it to me though.

I'll be there. Hoping to get Teresa to show up too. We might have to bribe her with a beer break mid way.

I can actually make the Bob Moore "Moonlight Madness" ride this year!! Have to figure out what to do with the car, though . . . I wouldn't mind the ride in, but I'm a little less keen on rolling back through South Baltimore by myself later at night after dark.
