Light rail might not allow bikes during games. I know DCs metro is not bike friendly during busy times(rush hours, mall events). Not certain about baltos subway. Barry knows the NW corridor really well so I would trust his route.
I checked the MTA website and they state: "Bicycles are permitted on all MTA Light Rail and Metro Subway service except on crowded trains. If the train is crowded due to morning or evening rush hour, sporting events or special events, please wait for the next train." I would be sure to print this out. I kinda figured if I ducked out of the game early I might have a chance of catching a train before the crowds. Or at least bike to a stop further out and catch a train. I just hate the metro so much. Worst experience ever of any metro system I have used. -D |

Since I'm in a chatty sort of way this evening I'll post a semi non biking Q. Has anyone been to the Thursday night concert in the park. It's at Mt Vernon place put on by WTMD. I just bought a used folding bike and after work plan to take it on the MARC to the Mt Vernon place concert. It's close to the station. I could then hop back on the train to BWI or Halethorpe and bike home from there.

Here would be the whole thing http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Home-from-Orioles How long are baseball games usually? I guess if I ducked out by 10pm I would be home by midnight or so. [edit] So is the trail part the section in the beginning going through the golf course and recreational areas? Is it lit? -D -D http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/45145 But I have not traveled this late at night so I really cannot vouch for their nighttime characteristics. Also I have not been on Windsor Mill Rd in ages but if you like this under rather then over route to home, from my other route you can take Park Heights to Slade/Milford Mill, Scotts Level Rd (just after 695,) Winands Rd and join this route. I’ll close with so far my favorite routes out of the city late night with the possibility of drunks on the road are the Gwynns Fall Trail and Guilford Ave. If you want a route using Guilford just let me know. |

On the way home I passed through the Hon Fest and it did look like a lot of fun but I was parted out for the day so I did not stay long. Oh FWIW for those of you who did go on the TDP I was the guy making announcement standing in back of the pick up truck.
I had a blast on this ride, I did the Medium route in just a hair over two hours. I would love to get a road bike and do the 35 next year. |

Well yesterday started out like any other day with me checking my email and I noticed an old email from Greg about the East Coast Greenway “Close the Gaps” tour which he was supposed to send me the press release for. Wait, that’s today and I frantically Googled the web trying to find more info. Well I finally found it and I had a half hour to get downtown for the sign unveiling. Well since I just replaced the drive train on my bike and finally fixed my “in the wrong position” cleat I decided to give it a whirl.
I get there in time and have fun meeting every one. After the little ceremony we take off along the ECG. I will note that in leaving Baltimore the Potee St bridge has a bike lane (one direction only) so that was a nice crossing. The people were interesting but there was a lot of stopping for picture taking and interviewing trail users, so as a bike ride it was a bit lame. Getting near to Annapolis Greg needs to go back home and get his car so I decide to ride with him to the light rail stop. A train pulls away from the station just as we get there so we decide to bike all the way into Baltimore. Greg takes me over the Hanover St bridge and that was a little intimidating and I’m not sure if I will do that again especially since Angelo’s route is more direct and not near as intimidating. Ok Greg and I part ways and it’s now 5pm at the Inner Harbor and there is an ECG event at 6pm. Hmm can I get back down to Annapolis in hour? Well once I am back on the BWI trail the wind picks up and it was really threatening to rain but for some unknown reason I kept going. Well after fighting the wind and riding for an hour and a half I made it down to the event which seemed to just be taking off as I get there. Nice conversations and good food and then headed home now very, very tired. Info on the Close the Gaps Ride: http://www.baltimorespokes.org/admin...70613075255249 My route for the day: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/ECG-Wanderings I slept real good that night. |
Any ideas for Sunday rides?

So, after fixing your cleat, does your knee feel better--if that was what's wrong? |

Barry: I am going to try to make the Bike advisory meeting on Tuesday, are you going and can anybody come(not that I am just an anybody). I plan to take my "new" folder on the Penn line, bike the Jones Falls trail. Do you think that's best way to Madison street or run through the neighborhood Bolton Hill? When I leave I might take the light rail or the Penn line. Timing is everything. Angelo: Please repost your route if it's easy if not I'll search BF archives for it. Thanks. |
The Mayor’s Bicycle Advisory Committee meeting is open to all (and especially Charlie ;) ) and bikes are welcomed inside the building as well. I look forward to finally meeting you. Agenda items:
1. MTA meeting notes 2. Ride with the Mayor event 3. College Bike Network 4. East Coast Greenway Alliance update It’s hard to say what’s the best route from Penn Station would be. The Jones Falls Trail and adjacent roads are all nice and scenic but you have the switch backs (ADA complaint) to get up out of the stream valley and over to Druid Hill Park. Dropping down to Mt Royal then finding your way over to Eutaw Pl is also a nice to a not bad ride. Before Noracer came along I was known as the long distance dude but he just had to show me up.  Seriously I do appreciate him for inspiring me to do more, not to mention being one swell of a guy. ;) My knee is no worse for the wear after my ride, which is a good sign as I did push things a bit. I am also experiencing some moments when it does feel a lot better, so I am hopeful that the cleat thing was the major issue. Angelo’s route: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...from-the-South (Just take 170 to get to the BWI trail) (FWIW On the Draw tab you can click the ‘>’ which moves the route pointer ~1 mile and re-centers the map so you can zoom in and follow the route.) |
