PM sent. FYI that golf course in your posted cue sheet is where I crashed on my bike 2 years ago resulting in the pictured arm. Bill |

Bill The Chesapeake Wheelman are holding a hill climb time trial on Illchester in the near future. I haven't entered, but another member of Team BBC has. I haven't decided if I will/can join him. |
Do you wear a pink jersey?
If so I seen you I think it was Tuesday I went down twice..I do Bonnie Branch. Bill |

If you saw me during that portion, I was the guy barely hanging on to the back as we went up Bonnie Branch and other roads in the area before finishing up at the Park & Ride. My legs were definitely done after 5 times up Illchester. |

I'm looking for a way to hook the above route to the BWI loop and/or the B&A trail. I've seen signs around the north-eastern part of this route (just before lawyers hill rd), which I tried to follow in my car one day a few weeks back, but couldn't actually find it.

FWIW there is a signed bike route between Patapsco Park and BWI trail. The Patapsco end heads south on Levering Ave and just follow the green signs.

Hey - do you know if anyone has mapped out the route for the Bay Country Century on Sept. 1? I have last year's cue sheet - is the route the same? You going to be riding this year or taking pixs?
I want to be riding, but i doubt i will. The weekend prior is the Blue Ridge Extreme. My whole month of August training is being devoted to massive elevation gain. By the time the BRE is over, i expect to be completely shot. I will be transistioning to flat fast rides as my next goal after riding the BRE in less than 6 hrs (probably wishfull thinking on my part) is to do the Seagull solo on a TT bike and beat my PR of 4 hrs 20 min (total riding only time). No pacelining. When i did 4:20 back in 2000 it was 2up with another guy with both of us on TT bikes. Look for the big red Ducati on Sept 1st. |

For those interested, I used this info, and info given to me via PM from WJ13US (aka Bill) to make the following: Patapsco Valley to BWI Loop [mapmyride.com]. The route I mapped out there goes CCW. Since I've never ridden that loop before I used another mapmyride route that someone else had done as a reference. I'm fairly pleased with the results, and I hope its accurate, but I do have one issue with it. Where the loop meets back it appears to jump back onto the bridge where Stoney Run Rd crosses over Aviation Blvd (Rt 170) (pictured below). I just mimicked the route I was using as a reference figuring that if it's wrong, I'll figure it out once I'm out there. The drop shadow leading up to the bridge seems to indicate that it is indeed rising to meet the bridge, but it also appears that there's a barrier wall there... perhaps we need to lift our bikes over this? http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/3...uestioncz9.jpg |
Bunny hop.
Actually, I don't have a clue, but I'm interested in this route - it is close to where I work. |

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1405/...9db3dc6fbf.jpg It was my hope to convey a sense of how steep that little section is. I don't think that came through, but I like the pic anyways. I've been meaning to grab a picture of the cautionary sign at the top indicating the gradient for descending cars. I believe it reads 18%... |

I think that you needed to be up by the telephone pole to capture the steepness. |

If you recall where you got lost let me know and I’ll see if there is something extra we can try and get in there.
Basically it's Hanover RD to Race RD left on Main Street, Right on Levering (crossing 1) keep straight right into the park (going under 895 and 95). |

I crossed Rt 1 and turned left on main street. One more sign got me to turn right onto Furnace Ave and I think that was the last I noticed of any signs. Once I got to where furnace ave meets Ridge Rd, I believe I simply gave up and turned around. I might have gone a little further, but I don't remember now. Also, looking over the route I mapped just recently, Bill suggested that Race Rd would be easier than the Ridge Rd way I plotted. He also mentioned that the signs point you down Race rd, so I'm guessing now that I simply missed it... so if you did do something with the signs leading the way, I guess you could make it bigger and possibly bright neon yellow so a numbskull like me won't miss it ;) |
Oh yea, I will be riding that route this saturday morning (planning on leaving around 9ish). Anybody that's interested in riding this with me, shoot me a PM. I'm pretty much a casual rider (no hill repeats for me!) so it would be a very leisurley pace (12-14 mph probably). Also, if he has his bike fixed by then, my brother-in-law is supposed to go with me and he's not really a cyclist at all. He would be riding my old Target special schwin mountain bike. He's in pretty good shape as he's an avid runner and is currently training for the Marine Corps Marathon, so I'm not sure really what to expect out of his riding capabilities.

I think I'm gunna give that route a try tonight around 5:30. Leaving from the Northrop Parking lot next to Stony Run Road if anyone else is around the BWI trail tonight.

I needed a reco ride tonight so i went from the Dorsey Road Aircraft viewing area. Toward the end of the ride I got caught up in some major road construction on Hanover Rd, just after turning off Race Rd. I saw a couple of riders catch up to me just as i was turning right onto Ridge, but they went left. I saw quite a few people out tonight in the park and on the roads nearby too.

I have a number of rides and some w/ que sheets. I'm generally a rec rider in the 14 mph range. If you interested in some routes or perhaps a ride, drop me a line. Bill For those of you looking o hook up to BWI trail: there's a new trail (been in the works for a while) that avoids Race, Stoney and that rental car area. It runs along Furnace to Ridge to the corporate offices of MTA, across a marsh to BWI/Amtrak. Very cool bridge and marshlands. Many of the bridges are installed but more are still needed. Next time in that area check it out and tell the powers that be to finish the F%#@* thing. I think the last Admin(Ehrlich and Flanagan) stopped the project(but don't quote me). Here's alink for the future route. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1192744 For those trying to get to BWI now, turn right onto Race at the Furnace Inn, left at Hanover, right at Ridge, left at Stoney, right at the light(still stoney) |
Way to go Barry on rebuilding those bikes. Folks here's a recapped of recent Balto happenings. Barry was one of the guys that rebuilt/tuned up the donated bikes, so the ride could go on.
