Pics from Tour du Port (in reverse order) and yes the Mayor was wearing a pink jersey. FWIW I did the medium route and did an addition ride out and back to Fort McHenery to look for a lost rider.
Between reviewing the route on Friday and taking pictures today I've been doing a lot of "interval" training (a lot of stopping and then going as fast as I can for a mile or so to the next stop.) Not exactly my normal riding style but too much stopping really seems to build up excessive energy for me, so sorry for blowing past you Ellen. After Harborview I caught up with Baltimore's Director of Transportation (Al Foxx) who was doing the 20 mile route (I think.) Speaking of Delvale what's with Balto County leaving an open "ditch" for cyclists to fall into? http://photos-075.ll.facebook.com/ph...44083_4142.jpg There's at least a 3" gap all along this trough. This Tour du Port had a record number of last minute detours then any other Tour du Port, a major pain. FWIW the number of registered cyclists was around 1500, a real good turn out! Greater Brown was volunteering and Scrunge13 (not that active here) was out riding. |
Hey Barry I looked for you at the end. What time did you finish riding? We had problems at North point w/ a tube that was beyond repair. Had to be swagged back. Next year we should have a few tubes to send with the ride marshals. Everyone was prepared to fix a flat, not replace a tube. That was our only problem of the day though. Charlie

I pulled into the finish around 12:05 and was sent out again around 12:20 so I was not around much at the finish. I'll pass on your comments to the organizers.

Thanks Barry - the pics look great. We spoke with the woman pulling the tandem, piccolo and trailer quite a bit at the end of the ride. They have a trailer attached to their car to get all that stuff around - dedication!

Veloellen, if you came into the Riverside park and got some munchies, then you probably saw me. I chatted with Barry for awhile. Barry is easy to spot due to his bike. If you weren't talking to him while he was on his bike I missed you. Thanks for cutting the bagels - I had half of one with PB (were you the guy spreading the pb rather skimpily??) and 1/4 of a banana. YUM.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I think the healing is going well. I have a follow-up with the orthopedic surgeon next Monday at which point they'll shoot more pics and decide on surgery. In the meantime, here is a picture to make you cringe:

I wasn't able to make it to the TDP on Sunday though I sincerely appreciate your help with that. Please consider me for a volunteer for next year's Tour Dem Parks or Tour De Port. The Sunday group that I ride with wanted to ride out to the county so I did, a beautiful forty mile ride into the Valley, not really a recovery ride. I did the Seagull on Saturday, felt pretty good averaging about 19 mph, pulling all day long, hardly ever drafting. Seems whenever I dropped off the front the second up wouldn't hold the pace. Saw Teacher Bob and Alex there, wanted to join them but me and my gang were late out of the first rest stop. Any other fall rides coming up? |
