Derailleur hanger

Hi all
Currently building a 10speed hard tail using cotic Solaris frame. The frame was purchased 2nd hand and came with a rear hanger already fitted.
I have gone to bolt on a shimano xt Deore rear derailleur and can't get it to fit. Basically it hits the smallest sprocket stopping me being able to line up the mounting hole.
Tried pulling the derailleur into its position when being used but this doesn't change the position of the part of derailleur that is fouling the sprocket.
Are hangers bike specific, derailleur specific or number of speed specific? Any guidance appreciated

Post some photos.

What model derailleur do you have?

Are hangers bike specific
Yes, scroll through the following page to see the many different designs and shapes of hangers.

Derailleur hangers aren't derailleur or speed specific that I know of.

Derailleurs do have specs for what type of cassette can be used with them.

It turns out I have the xt direct fit (bought from a mate) which didn't come with the link mount. So basically I was trying to fit it without that part hence why it didn't fit.
bought new derailleur and got it working now, thanks for input cobba
