Quick release recall

Quick Release Recall

https://www.singletracks.com/blog/mt....elease-issues/

Many manufacturers are participating (including DB!)

"While obviously a bike should never be ridden with the QR open, I’ve personally had QRs work themselves loose on extremely rough, extended descents."

Is the above stmt true? I've never had any problem with quick release on my OD Comp afaik but I'm not riding on heavy technical terrain...

Actually it really has nothing to do with quick releases themselves. If you read the criteria it has to do with the disc brake rotors when a quick release is not closed... improperly used.

Same skewer on a non-disc brake bike is fine.

"When a quick release like the one shown in Figure 1 is improperly adjusted or left open on a bicycle which also has a front disc brake, the quick release lever can become caught in the front disc brake assembly. If this happens, the front wheel could separate or come to a sudden stop and the rider could lose control of the bicycle posing a serious risk of injury."

Diamondback Bicycles - Safety Recall Notice

I called DB and they said they would send me a replacement skewer/lever for the front. So I think you're incorrect.

"Some Diamondback bicycles were sold equipped with disc brakes and a front quick release lever that can come into contact with the front disc brake when improperly adjusted or left open while riding."

So you're saying the disc brakes are defective? Then why did the DB rep not mention replacing the disc/rotor?

"
If the distance is more than 1/4″ (6mm), as shown in Fig.1 below, the quick-release is not affected by this recall."

so obviously the quick release may be the root cause issue and need to be replaced.

The real issue is the QR is hyper-extending into the rotor when opened. If that is happening, it needs to be replaced. bottom line.
