New to MTB... Proflex Full Squish good?

Found this bike, it's very hard to find anything in my price range and size. I'm looking for a large hardtail or full suspension mtb of basically any kind except a hybrid. I have about $200-400 to spend. Despite being close enough to even Austin texas to make a trip, I can't find anything there either. I found a proflex 20" bike for $250 with, well here's what the ad says: (Would post picture but this forum won't let me since I'm new)
"PROFLEX FULL SUSPENSION MOUNTAIN BIKE
-20" FRAME SHOULD FIT 5'11" - 6' 1"
-26 INCH MAVIC CROSSLAND WHEELS
-MARZOCHI FRONT SHOCK
-SHIMANO LX RAPID RISE SHIFTER
-SHIMANO XT 8 SPEED REAR derailleur
-SHIMANO XTR BRAKES
-EASTON MONKEY LITE CARBON BAR
-SUN RINGLE STEM
-SHIMANO SPD CLIPLESS PEDALS
- EASTON ALUMINIUM FRAME
-ELEVATED CARBON REAR CHAIN STAY"
Is this bike any good or is it too old to really keep up? I want to wait and get a bike I wont regret but I really am anxious to ride. (I am not new to biking, just mtb if that makes a difference)

Unless you have your heart set and can't wait, I would look at something else. You will have a hard time finding maintenance/parts for that frame and fork. 26 is on its way out in the mtb world also.

I would look at a hard tail so you will get better components and if you can save another $100 you can get a good entry level mountain bike.

Bikes: Evil Insurgent, Giant Stance, Wife has Liv Cypress, son has Motobecane HT529

the Motobecane 529HT, from Bikes direct is a fair bike for $399. Hydrualic Disc brakes, a little heavy but decent frame. Only an 3x8 gears but will get you around for a while. Later you can upgrade to 1x10 for a couple hundered or less. And with Suntour's upgrade program the cost to move to one of their decent full air forks down the road would not be that bad. The upgrade to an XCR Air is $149 to a Raidon XC Air $199.

And there use to be a bikes direct actual store in Houston, not sure if it is still there or how far that is for you.

Bikes: 2019 KonaLibre- 2003 Litespeed Vortex -2016 Intense Spider Factory Build -2008 Wilier Mortorolio- Specialized Stumpjumper Hardtail converted to bafang 750 mid drive -1986 Paramount 2014 - --- Pivot Mach 429c

the bike has nice parts but is very old technology. the shocks do not work that well and getting new elastomer might be a challenge At your range there are bikes. You have to keep looking in my opinion. I would suggest looking for a hardtail as well. For 400 it would be tough to find a FS bike. I would mot worry about the wheel size 26 still has plenty of tires available

Bikes: Felt F85, Proflex 757, Proflex 252

I own and still ride a Proflex bike. Mine has been cared for over the years as I'm the original owner so I know it's in great shape. Many of these I've seen for sale are destroyed and probably unsafe. If this is an 857 or 757 that looks in good shape it could be worth checking out otherwise go elsewhere.

Have you stopped off at your LBS? I got my son a GT Palomar for Christmas and for $330 that bike is really nice.
