Feasibility of repair
while i am saving up enough money to buy a new bike, i am hoping to salvage my old one. it is the Eli Tomac with the dreaded cracking frame. i have spent hours searching the web trying to determine if there is any point in having it welded. one guy in VA said he could weld and reinforce it and it would hold. he said the alloy is 7075 but others say it is 6061 and the only alloy that can be strong after welding without heat treating is 7005.
is there any way to determine which alloy really was used on the 2005 full suspension Eli Tomac and if there is any point in trying to salvage it. all the components are in great shape and it is unlikely that they will fit another frame, unless someone knows a frame i should look for that will take the parts but not have the cracking problem.
i can not post urls as a new member so i can not show which bike it is but it is the 2005 (could be 2004) full suspension white thing that seems to always break after a few years of riding.
