First time on singletrack!
Wow! Lots of fun. I might be hooked. I’ve ridden on roads for years, and did a couple cyclocross races last year.
I took my road bike out with 30mm cyclocross tires. It did really well. There were just a few short spots where I had to put a foot down to get through some big roots. Or uphill rocky sections. Probably could ride all of it on a real mountain bike, or even on this bike once I get more confidence and experience.
Was able to go pretty quick on most of it since it was mostly smooth dirt. Even did a few wooden ramp things (the banked riding ones, not the jumping ones).
I went to Town Run Trail Park in North Indianapolis. I’d call it a very good introduction place for newbies like me.

Fun, isn't it? I remember my first time on singletrack. I was maybe 10 years old. The term didn't exist then. It was pre-mountain-bike, and I had found this trail in my neighborhood that went, well, who knew where it led, right? So I begged my mom for permission to find out.
Cyclocross bikes are pretty capable. You could ride most or even all of what's near me on such a bike.
