I got a big family 5 Girls 1 boy all teenagers I started riding lose a little weight and decided I enjoyed it but all I got is a woman's mountain bike which is one of the girls old bikes and I got a small budget so I have to go to Walmart and get me one I know they're cheap bikes but until I know that I'm going to stick with I need help to pick out which one would be the Best Buy i wieghed 261 lb when I start it now I'm down to 249 we ride a lot on the payment and I would like to do a few beginner Trails could you please suggest what bike is best for now

I'd avoid walmart like the plague. Have you checked out kijiji and craigslist for older model bikes?

depending on your height keep an eye out for an older trek or specialized I see them locally for 150 or so. they will have a coil fork in most cases. at your weight an air fork tops out at 220. if you were buying a new bike id recommend a roscoe or stache because both bikes have plus tires gives you more comfort without dealing with a full suspension ( has the same issues with shock weight ) but you can get a better bike than what you get at walmart if you buy used. look on youtube for suggestions on what to look for in a used bike. you can find an absolutely wrecked bike if you dont know what to look for.

ps one of my riding friends is 235 he wound up buying a new roscoe 7 pretty nice and comfortable for him his previous bike was a marlin but uncomfortable.

I recommend trying any place but walmart, they are cheap bikes that often don't last, and they are one size fits all. Bikes are not one size fits all. And especially at over 200lbs, you want good brakes. I recommend mechanical disc brakes at the least, and recommend hydraulic discs.

I have had rim brakes on a cheap bike fail on me while going down hill. Not a pleasant experience.

If you are competent at mechanics and feel you could finish assembling a bike, I recommend checking bikes direct. I got my son a Motobecane 529 with hydraulic discs from them. Right now they are $399. They have the Motbecane 400ht with mechanical disc brakes for $299.
