SRAM Eagle Upgrade on Kona Precept 130

I've read conflicting answers online with this question: Can the SRAM Eagle NX or GX 12 speed cassette fit on my bike? I have a 2016 Kona Precept that currently has a 142 x 12mm shimano deore rear hub and the stock Acera 11-34t 9 speed cassette. I've read I can install the NX with the existing hub or the GX with an XD hub, but I've also been told I can only fit up to an 11 speed cassette on my bike. Basically, can I fit 12 gears on a 142x12mm hub or do they only fit on 148x12mm or larger? My rear rim has pringled so I plan on rebuilding the wheel with a new rim and spokes or buying a new wheel. I'd like to use the same hub if possible, but wouldn't mind upgrading if I need to.

I not going to look but I'm 99.99999999999% sure shimano doesn't offer a sram XD driver body for their hubs. But have no fear Sunrace is here to save the day by making a 11-50 12 speed cassette that does work with the standard "shimano" style hub.
