Do you need a new chain when upsizing chainring?

Hi,

After my chaining recently broke I've decided to go for a 36T chainring instead of 32T. I switched from Black Absolute Black Narrow Wide 32T 104mm. chainring to RaceFace Narrow Wide 36T 104mm.

My question is whether I will have to change my chain as well. I know you're supposed to change it when there's wear but the chain is fairly new, only 5-6 rides.

Can you get into the big-big gear w/o it looking like the RD is about to be overstretched you’re OK as it is.

The gears are changing fine but there's a weird noise when pedalling now.

This will explain how to size a chain. If your chain is still long enough, use it. If not, buy another.

I can confirm the old chain works fine. I've tuned the gears/shifting and now everything works very smoothly, there is no sag and neither is the chain overstretched

Thanks for the replies.
