Cannondale Headset Creaking GOING CRAZY!

I think im going to go insane!
I took my 2002 Cannondale Jekyll 800 to my LBS because of a creaking from the headset. They said that the berrings are shot, or it needs to be re-greased. But they said that there's no way of getting the headset off! or tightening it, or loosining it. is this true!? This problem is not un-commen to cannondale from what i've heard and seen on the internet, can anybody help me!?

From: Down on East End Avenue.

Bikes: Salsa Las Cruces, Burley R&R and a boat load of others.

I bet there is a tool for that. Also -- Are you sure that the handle bars are not the issue? I replace my bars every 2 years. I just did it and creaking stopped. Is there any play in the headset?
