Bikes: BigBox bikes.

Today was a good day!

My daughters are getting into bikes a little bit.

We have a small nature preserve close by that has some very short trails.

I mentioned to them before about going down some of the (very gentle slope) hills at this park on bikes. They adamantly refused the idea saying it sounded terrifying. Last night I mentioned it again and told them “If you just give it a shot with good attitude you guys can watch a movie afterwards.”

They liked the idea. So last night I replaced the grip shifter on the older kids BSA 6 speed with the base SIS shifter.

Both kids went down some hills. They both had a good time. Nobody crashed. The firstborn started to learn about shifting. The second kid learned - Don’t freak out- it’s OK to get off and push. I explained to them to hover their fingers over the brakes if you aren’t confident or can’t see far ahead. I think they listened.

A good day.

Bikes: BigBox bikes.

As an aside.

I looked and looked last night for a post from a bforum member about casual MTB racing using beach cruisers. I couldn’t find it again.
seemed fun to me, like beer league softball.

News.

Apparently the previous owner of my car left a vape pen in the glove box.

Traded the vape pen and 20$ to coworker for one aluminum frame 20” bmx bike and one 24”girls haro aluminum MTB bike.

These are the kids next bikes. The 24” bike is really nice, except the forks are those ridiculous forks with just springs inside. So I’m thinking about putting a 26” front end 1 1/8 non tapered ridged on that bike.
The 24” MTB bike does need cleaning up and going through, re oiling, etc.
The 20” bmx bike I’m going to paint white (maybe, or maybe sticker bomb it with girly stickers) and I have a bigger freewheel coming for it- the kid doesn’t stand up yet and just pushes for even a small incline.

Bought a used death trap bike today (40$). Going to true up the front wheel on it and put some fat off-road tire on it for the kids MTB bike.

Ordered a spoke wrench right now.

And the MTB bike needs a stem with less reach.

Thats crazy! So the consumables would be... one rear wheel per race.

Or one 50$ Craigslist bike per race.
