From 3x chainring to 1x

I plan to move from my worn out 3x deore hollowtech II crank to a 1x microshift advent x drivetrain. Any recommendations for a budget 1x crankset and 32T chain ring? I know they are talked about on youtube with Amazon links, but wanted to see if anybody here liked a certain "brand".

Bikes: Foundry Chilkoot Ti W/Ultegra Di2, Salsa Timberjack Ti, Cinelli Mash Work RandoCross Fun Time Machine, 1x9 XT Parts Hybrid, Co-Motion Cascadia, Specialized Langster, Phil Wood Apple VeloXS Frame (w/DA 7400), R+M Supercharger2 Rohloff, Habanero Ti 26

Just get a 1x chainring for your current set up. Unless the actual cranks are worn out just get a new chainring unless it is an XTR crank with that weird BCD it is probably a 104bcd and can easily be found in 1X with bolts and stuff.

The cranks should be fine. Measure the bolt circle and order a narrow wide chainring in whatever size you want.

Thanks. That is what I will try first. The crank is fine but rings and casette worn.

Going from a triple, you may need shorter chainring bolts also. The middle and outer of triples are sometimes held by one set of bolts. Cheap, but something else to order.

I'd suggest a narrow/wide chain ring.
Not absolutely necessary, but a suggestion.

Great minds think alike. I also agree with new wide/narrow chainring (so must be EVEN number of teeth) in middle position on the current crank, as hollowtech 2 and external BB bearings are a great setup. Plus, the middle ring on a 3X should be right at the target chainline dimension, if your new cassette has the same overall width as the previous one. Only if you wanted a really small chainring, which would need to mount on the inner position, would the chainline be off.

I've had good results with a RaceFace chain ring. It's heat treated aluminum alloy, narrow/wide.
