fastest speed by any professional?

Hi, I'm just curious. I managed to clock 50.5kph on my diamondback once going down a steep straight road. To me, it was fast. I was thinking has there been any record by professionals going at the speed of 100kph or more? What is the fastest a mountain bike or road bike can go?

So far my top speed is 67 Km/hr but I got a new bike so I haven't checked it yet. I'd be pretty scared to do 100 on a mountain bike.

Whao.. that was fast. 67kmh.
I heard from a friend that Lance Armstrong could do a 120kph downhill, but I'm sure how true it was?
But I'm sure I wouldn't want to hit 100 too..
too scary..

100km/h is just crazy. I reached 63 km/h going down the biggest hill in my area. Never again for me.

You could always use Google for conversions:

You can also convert currencies:

Or just do simple Arithmetic:

78.3 km/h here... That was behind my buddy's jeep cherokee. I had to touch the brake a few times.

Same hill, head down to the bars, coasting, I go up to 70.5 km/h, and pedaling 74 km/h. These are all on mountain tires.

Road bikes can go much faster due to better aerodynamics, less friction, and higher gearing.

There isn't a comparison between roadies and mtbikers so it shouldn't even be compared.

I believe the fastest by a mtbiker was 120kph on some volcanoe. That was on a mtbike.

I've gone 68k's down a road with my mate in the ute following seeing how fast I got, on lots of DH tracks riders can reach 70-80k's.

The guy on a volcano wasn't riding a mtb. He was riding a custom giant aero 1 piece carbon frame that looked like a trek Y-frame road bike with mtb tires. I believe he hit 120 MILES per hour. That's around 200km/hr.

Um NO! First hit he did it on a Stock Giant DH team. this was for warm up, he did the 'real' attempt on a carbon fibre bike that snapped. He got the record on the DH Team as it survived.

My top speed on a roadie is 58.5 mph (94.2 kph). On mountain bike I have hit a little over 40 mph on a fire road.

As for pro's most of them hit speeds close to 70 mph (113 kph) on the road.

That's what I said. Look in the General categories forum and do a search, there were several videos posted.

It was advertistesd as a mtb. It had mtb wheels and it had suspension. In behind his leg there is in fact suspension. You could clearly see it moving up and down in the video (the original showing anyways).

Funny doing a search, I think you and I have argued this point before.

Right from the ripley site who promoted the speed record

Mountain Bike Speed Record:
Believe it or not, Eric Barone will break a land speed world record on a bicycle, by pedaling downhill at an unbelievable 107 miles per hour.
