fastest speed by any professional?
Hi, I'm just curious. I managed to clock 50.5kph on my diamondback once going down a steep straight road. To me, it was fast. I was thinking has there been any record by professionals going at the speed of 100kph or more? What is the fastest a mountain bike or road bike can go?

So far my top speed is 67 Km/hr but I got a new bike so I haven't checked it yet. I'd be pretty scared to do 100 on a mountain bike.

Whao.. that was fast. 67kmh.
I heard from a friend that Lance Armstrong could do a 120kph downhill, but I'm sure how true it was?
But I'm sure I wouldn't want to hit 100 too..
too scary..

100km/h is just crazy. I reached 63 km/h going down the biggest hill in my area. Never again for me.

78.3 km/h here... That was behind my buddy's jeep cherokee. I had to touch the brake a few times.
Same hill, head down to the bars, coasting, I go up to 70.5 km/h, and pedaling 74 km/h. These are all on mountain tires.
Road bikes can go much faster due to better aerodynamics, less friction, and higher gearing.

There isn't a comparison between roadies and mtbikers so it shouldn't even be compared.
I believe the fastest by a mtbiker was 120kph on some volcanoe. That was on a mtbike.

I've gone 68k's down a road with my mate in the ute following seeing how fast I got, on lots of DH tracks riders can reach 70-80k's.

Throw the stick!!!!
My top speed on a roadie is 58.5 mph (94.2 kph). On mountain bike I have hit a little over 40 mph on a fire road.
As for pro's most of them hit speeds close to 70 mph (113 kph) on the road.

Funny doing a search, I think you and I have argued this point before.
Right from the ripley site who promoted the speed record
Mountain Bike Speed Record:
Believe it or not, Eric Barone will break a land speed world record on a bicycle, by pedaling downhill at an unbelievable 107 miles per hour.
