My last pair of MTB shoes were stiff but OK to walk in for even a few blocks. Walking up a cliff or down a long flight of steps, no problem.

How can you tell if a MTB shoe is walkable? I'm considering the Gaerne MTB shoe and wondering if all MTB shoes are walkable? https://www.gaernebike.com/mtb_polarcomp.asp

if you're looking for MTB shoes look at the 661 launch.

661 Nuevo is a very stiff sole for power but also a very soft upper for walkability. the treads are very grippy on rocks also. they are basically alsmost as comfortable to walk in and as much traction as a pair of Vans or DC shoes but are super stiff on the bike.
my Shimano M180s are NOT made for walking distances. they fit very snugly and are super stiff all over. Id not try to walk down a flight of wet concrete steps or up a slick hill in these shoes

Those are the SICKEST shoes I've seen for MTB. By sickest I mean most unique and eye catching.

Those are awesome.

After this morning's freezing decents (even a ski jacket and sock liners) I went ahead and ordered them.

Buyer beware.

Follow on. These boots arrived and despite the ad, they DO NOT have a fleece liner. The company says it was a mistake in the ad. They have the warmth of a regular Mt. Bike shoe so you'll need to add a fleece liner for winter riding.

www.gaernebike.com says they'll refund. Here is their response:

Feel free to return the shoes if you're unhappy with them. The fleece
lining copy came from the lower priced shoes that were never brought into
this country but we picked up that shoe's copy by mistake.

Most people feel that the fully gusseted inner boot and the wind resistant
outer shell make up for heavy insulation but again, return the shoes for a
full refund if they're unused and we'll have to work out some other deal if
they've been used.

Sorry you're unhappy with them and that we made a mistake in the copy on the
website.

How cold do your feet get when riding?

I've ridden in -30º with mesh track shoes and my feet have never gotten cold.

Do you only wear boots in the winter or something?

I find that hard to believe, or you were only riding for shorter distances.

Temps are around 40F But the problem is in those lonnng 25-35mph descents. The Diadora Pablano H20's just couldn't cut it even with a Seal Skin or Bootie cover. Feet get cold as the wind passes over the top of the foot.

The Gaerne work OK with the 2 fleece liners probably because of thickness. I'm not sure how well they will do around 20F

Nay, although it is possible that while my ears and fingers were nearly frozen I didn't notice anything else being cold. Then again, I don't think I've ever had cold feet.

I was freezing, but my feet weren't.
