Out for a spin Friday morning. Past couple of days have been rainy, so it was really nice and cool. Rolled onto a grass patch to avoid a large puddle only to find that the grass was hiding gooey mud. Tires & shoe bottoms got caked. It's the first mud this bike has seen, it's been christened :) ! Also saw a rabbit.

http://www.finishlineusa.com/product...roBrushPkg.jpg ^ I use these brush sets at work and they're awesome, and every mountain biker can use them, so I got 10 sets http://www.genuineinnovations.com/im...t&image_id=221 couple of these inflator/pump combos http://www.notubes.com/Assets/Produc...alantimage.jpg couple of these for the tubeless folks http://www.bicycling.com/images/cma/...airchecker.jpg another goodie the tubeless users will find useful for dialing in their setups http://www.parktool.com/uploads/thum...d0_430x390.jpg couple of these I believe the shop itself will be providing yet MORE of the Finish Line brush sets, some tires, chains, lubes, and who knows what else. Eric and Gino better bring an extra table ;) |
Rode the usual trails today, but with my mom & stepdad. I came up on a group of four or five guys looking around mid-20's, all on hardtail 29ers (3 Stumpys & a Trek something-or-another) wearing gear that matched their bikes, lycra, clipless pedals, the whole nine of XC cliches.
So I bet they were pretty embarrassed when I came up on them like a bat outta hell with my AM/burly-XC bastard child of a bike, baggy DH clothes, platforms/Adidas shoes...& on a climb nonetheless:D Shorter ride because I had company that hadn't been biking in several months, but it was enjoyable to have people that allow me to relax & enjoy the ride rather than struggling to keep up. |
Braggart!
I came up on a couple of 29'er stumpy's the other day when I was riding my 34lb Parker in baggy crap. They waved byebye as they left me in their dust. |
I had to brag, it's literally the first time I've passed someone on the trail who wasn't riding an X-Mart bike..it's a legitimate achievement for me!
To be fair though, there was a group of 7 or 8 other guys riding mostly 29ers in similar gear that passed me in such a way as to make me wonder if I was even moving at all:lol: |
I rode on a group ride with guys from the Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance a couple nights ago and had a good time but it being a bit unorganized and not truly knowing where we were going meant 8 miles in 2 hours. Slow motion haha. Only a couple of the group ride racers were there so that was nicer than usual. Also, almost everyone was old enough to be my father.

Took my "rain bike" on it's first mountain ride.
It went well for an old crapper. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...8/DSC_0876.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...8/DSC_0875.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...8/DSC_0873.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...8/DSC_0870.jpg (not me...a dude showing me the course I should have taken) http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...8/DSC_0874.jpg |
^That Fisher is still probably my favorite "crapper" bike I've seen on here, especially from what it looked like before you built it up.

Today I went with the South Bay Mountain Biking group 37.8 miles. We started at the terminal street parking lot near shoreline park, all 8 of us rode north to Ravenwoods space reserve. After that some of us headed south to moffett fields trail and rode back to the parking lot. It was a great day and the weather was very nice. Once i departed from the group at the end, i rode solo for a few more miles around the baylands and had a snack. Now i have 702.1 miles on my mountain bike.

The guy with the blue and white BikeOne in the background, is the one who have me the frame. He is even more surprised than I with it's transformation. Surprisingly, I ride it much more than my other bikes. It's a goer. |

The gnar has been shredded!
Not meant to be taken seriously. I started out at the GA Horse Park & got distracted with the off-the-beaten-path DH jump section & stayed there for a while, until I got hungry & went to get some lunch. Then I started getting the urge to ride again, so I settled on going to the much closer BMX track since I was just DJing anyway. And I came to a swift & sad realization that even being completely comfortable & confident on my bike, I still suck. So I made a video to show the awesomeness of the only jump I could clear:o It was actually a triple that I got 2/3 over... |

Also check out Dave @ Redstone Cyclery in Lyons: he leads up a weekly Tuesday night ride & puts on the Lyons FatTire Fest. (Also just noticed he'll have the Rocky Mt demo trailer around next week.) |
^ nice. I will check it out. We went up to nederland and the west magnolia area that is going to be shut down soon for thinning.

Had a quick ride on a new path today, it was a little rough and sandy so not super fun but it was good to learn a new path!!

Noice 2hrs yesterday with the new dude. Lots of ticks out there. I need to get out and finish trimming. I've put in 6-7hrs already and barely scratched the surface.
Good news...I finally got my "free" Stihl FS36 running strong. Good for trimming around crap. My dad's giving me his Homelite straight shaft trimmer. That will be enough trimmers to keep me and my buds trimming. The local "Earthriders" group also has a DR cutter that they will bring out soon and help out. Schweet! |
^^ Next thing you know, you'll be flailing away with a Kubota and a bushhog.
On a riding note, got out last night for the first of the Wed. night XC race series. Who says us DHers don't know how to pedal uphill? Was not a stellar performance, riding the 40 lb. Plumber's Nightmare as I was; but feel pretty good that I was solid mid-pack anyway - - 7th out of a field of 14 of us 40+ers. Should move back up to toward the front when I get the XC hardtail rideable again. MechBgon was right about the schwagg booty: I was one of the last numbers called and there was still some of the Finish Line brush sets (above) on the table begging to be snagged, so I snagged one. Thanks mech! Plus, as always, a local brewery provided a keg of libation for all the racers . . . in addition to there being refreshment for the non-beer-oriented. A good evening. |

Nothing special, but a great ride. Alum Creek, just north of Columbus, Ohio.
