8spd to 9spd
can you turn an 8spd to a 9spd and how. i was thinking to get a new cassette for a 9spd and then get a new rear derailer for a 9spd?

you will definitely need a new cassette, but also a new chain, and probably a derailleur and definitely shfiters (well the right one atleast). And while you're at it cable and housing wouldn't hurt. If you're gonna do all that now would be the time to upgrade or convert to shimano or sram if you were thinking about changing set-ups.
I'd say the iron horse is a better bike, but I wouldn't want to buy it from performance. I have a prejudice against them.

Its kinda pointless in my opinion. The only reason I went from 8 to 9 spd was cause it was time to upgrade my drivetrain and they didn't have any 8 spd. XT stuff, so I just converted to 9 spd, the new 8 spd I guess.
But unless it's time to upgrade, I would just stay w/ 8 until you need a new drivetrain.
