Right now theres the Trek 3900 "06" $360 and the Giant boulder "06" $245

anyone familiar with these brands and would like to have a say? is it worth getting the trek 3900?

Bikes: Gary Fisher Katai, Giant Reign 3

I would spend the extra and go for the Trek. Looking at those bikes specifications I think they are worth the difference, and plus you get an aluminium frame with the Trek.
