I wear whatever I don't mind getting dirty. And an old pair of new balance tennis that have NO TREAD yet mysteriosly hold my pedals very well.
Hmm... on very very hot days I will resort to lycra. My friends complain but if they have sucha problem with looking at my goods then they should eat a damn powerbar and climb faster.

For a top, I wear a bike Jersey. Easy enough. For shorts, I've been spoiled by past roadie experience, so I wear a very comfy pair of Pearlizumi bib shorts with some over-the-knee length nylon climbing shorts on top of them. Like this:
And yeah, that's a rented bike.

hmmmm, guess out of the current respondants, I am the only one who wears bike shorts, either lyca or mtn biking baggies. Never jeans or regular shorts. I use cycling jerseys, I find they work better than just a cotton t-shirt.
For cold weather, polartech tights, underarmour and long fleece jerseys.
After riding for over 20 years, I am big believer in cycling specific clothing

warm/hot weather: bike jersey or wicking type shirt. with or without sleeves, lycra shorts, coolmax socks, Shimano m180 shoes LG T-bone helmet ( max ventilation).
cold/cool weather: wicking base layer, bike jersey, maybe a LS one on top ( if cold), jacket( if cold out, Champion C9 lined w/ shoulder vents for some air down the back when zipped), lycra shorts, between 1- pair or tights,( depending on how cold) or a pair of fleece lined tights for super cold, merino wool socks, 661 Nuevo shoes, toe covers if real cold out. for temps below freezing I may or may not wear a neck gator, BMX helmet (slight ventilation)

Jeans and a t-shirt with a sweater on top this time of year. And a hat and gloves if it's cold enough.

Depends on the weather. Recently, we had a fairly warm winter day so I wore bike shorts, a long sleeve t-shirt under a wool/cotton blend cycle jersey. Note the duct tape over the right shoe to keep the shoelaces from getting snagged on the chainwheel and the Bell gloves. I'm trying to make OCP, but I so far they've turned me down. Maybe its the white sox?
That's my 13 year old son riding my old Nishiki, he's a big'un.

My bike outfit is just mesh athletic shorts over compression shorts, and a wicking t-shirt. If it's cold I'll add a cotton long-sleeve shirt and/or a vest.

For a while I wore a pair of hiking shorts and a t-shirt. Then, I added a t-shirt for the UV protection. Then, after the seams hurt too much, I bought a pair of MTB baggies with a spandex padded liner. I also bought, recently, a wicking MTB jersey. I have clipless pedals so I wear MTB shoes. Now that it's colder I'm wearing a thermal shirt under a jersey to keep me warm and still wick the sweat off.

A studded patent leather thong and a tube top. When it warms up I'll take the tube top off.
