Is anyone familiar with the comparison of Avid and/or Magura hydrolic brakes for a mountain bike? (I have small hands)
My brakes now are for smaller hands and work great but i am looking to put those on my commuter and up grading to hydros for the dirt...

I use the Magura Marta's with the lever adjusted as far in as possible and they work great. I don't like to have my levers very far from the handlebar. Having them close makes me feel more stable plus I have a minor case of carpul tunnel so having the levers close seems to help with that as well.

this shouldn't be too much an issue at all. i have Hopes that i haven't even bothered to adjust lever travel yet and they work fine. i raced motocross for years and adapted to clutch and brake pull distances. you just kind of adapt.

has this been a major problem with you before??

i am only 5'4" with appropriately proportioned hands. i have had to deal with tough clutch pulls on big motocross bikes...my MTB brakes feel like nothing compared to that.

i hope you match yourself up well will your brakes, but unless you have had problems or you think your hands are smaller than mine, i wouldn't even give it a second thought OR buy a brand based on that. all the hydraulics are going to have comparable lever pullls within reason, i don't care what anyone else says. they're not that different from each other

just had another thought. from the sound of your post, you do not currently have hydraulic brakes. you probably already know this, but don't forget that hydraulics are going to be more "sensitive" to pull. so even if you can't find a "small" setup, its not going to take much to get the desired braking.
