Got the first goal of 2006 done today, a solo unsupported all mountain century 8 and a half hours later I arrive to find a few boxes, most of them from michelin. Put a set of all mountains on the Kona, and decided to see what it weighed in at. Couldn't believe my eyes, when the bikes weight came to be 30 pounds(29.9 pounds exactly.)

i dont think i understood a single thing you just said ... other than you have a heavy ass bike

To put in rookie terms.
Did a century on the dirt. Weighed bike for the first time since changing the fork, pedals and tires, came in lighter than expected. |

Yea, it is a big accomplishment. Even 100 kilometers on dirt kills me, on a geared, and a much lighter bike.
Kona, how heavy was your bike before? |

I read this thread last night, then went to bed and drempt about my bike's weight.... I drempt I went into the post office and put my bike up on the scale (:)) and it weighed in at 42 pounds  and its a hardtail! |
Congrats on meeting your goal, and what a goal it is. 100 miles is a long way, most people probably couldn't ride 100 road miles on a 17lb road bike.
Man, 100 miles is a crapload, I rode 60 kilometres on my Hardrock and was shaking after the ride and felt bad and ill and tired for the next two days.
where'd ya do it?
160 km in 8.5 hours - that's almost 19 km/h! Holy crap - were you drafting behind a pack of stampeding cattle? :D Most of the long rides around here involve too much climbing to allow for a pace that fast. What sort of terrain were you on?
yeah, thats pretty good. 11.75 miles an hour for 8 and 1/2 hours on a thirty pound singlespeed with platform pedals on all mountain terrain.
I did it at Round Valley with the Cushetunk extension. The weight was around 38 pounds.
that is good, amazing actually, the furthest i've ridden is 42 miles and that was enough.
maybe your bike burned fat
Oh, by the way, have any pics of the upgraded rig? :D
Looking SWEET! :D

So Kona, what are some of your other goals? Backflip tailwhip? 24 hr solo? 100 foot drop? |

The solo century goal was a feeler for the 24 hour goal. Been training for it since mid December, so I was prepared for the miles easily. |
