haha

I'd like to see that too. Don't live in california though, bit of a long ways to go watch a couple guys compare penis size by riding down some mountain

The thing I find funny about all this is the fact pete fagerlin has had the opportunity too ride in tons of great places (reference his site www.petefagerlin.com) Yet he has the time and feels the need to argue with some "silly kid" over the internet. Quite funny. I better ignore him before he makes me feel even more uncomfortable over the net

Yeah, what a tough life I have with all of this free time. You're merely cheap entertainment kid. You boast, and then retreat when someone calls you on your goofy claims.

As previously posted, I'm ready to ride whenever.

How does your schedule look for the rest of the week? Friday Morning? Sunday Morning? Monday? Tuesday (might be in Tahoe but that's up in the air at this point)? Wednesday?

Just let me know...

We'll start it off be me laughing at your incredibly odd bar end setup and then you can try to own me on the climb. Deal?

"I gotta laugh when people make that comment about them pointing up. Cuz I know I would own them in a climb."

Im glad we both can offer eachother entertainment. ACtually I have to do a job 11 thursday and friday. But by about 12:30 we can do it either day.
So are you going to be an arse the whole time, or are you going to pretend to be your age for a brief moment?

I've seen so many people pass me on rigid singlespeeds it is amazing, especially in the technical sections. Some people can just ride, they don't need a lot of travel.

It is still the rule. However if the person is not competitive for one of the top spots it is generally overlooked. I have given out my CO2 inflator, tubes and multitool during races before.

There have been a couple of big occasions where people were stripped of their podium spots because they accepted a tool or a tube from another racer. I can't remember the racers name but one of them was one of the big boys of NORBA.

Interesting post, and the responses remind me of how much of a different place I live in. I live in Hong Kong, which as most of you know, is not a city known for it's friendliness. Was out on the side of the trail once, resting and sipping my drink, when I saw a kid (probably about 10-12 years old) on a bike fall off. Nothing too serious, but his knees were scratched up and bleeding. I offerred him a band-aid and some antiseptic wipes which I always carry. Before I could give them to him, his mum pulled up behind him and told me to "go away". I think she must've thought I was gonna abduct her son or something. So in short, I guess my answer is "never again".

Actaully, while the racing rules state that a racer cannot accept help or equipment, if a racer does accept either, it is up to the racer to report it and DQ him/herself, or up to another racer to report it.

Once saw Nick Waite DQ himself after having 3 flats, accepting 1 tube because he only had 2 with him, and STILL cross the finish line 5 minutes ahead of the next expert/pro racer........

If people are just riding, I would find it the height of rudeness for either of my kids NOT to stop and help somebody; during a race, I would - at the very LEAST - expect them to ask if the rider was ok, and to report the problem to the next course marshal they encounter. But, since my kids have grown up in the WV MTB community, I don't have to worry about them being idiots out there - they always help or offer assistance, and would rather run their bike than accept help.

not insinuating on what you should do or anything but "never again" is kind of harsh ,isn't it?

I don't blame you at all for saying this. You know, given 5 years ago (before I came here), I would've agreed with you. But if you ever lived here, you'll understand why I said "never again". I guess after a while, the rudeness really gets to you.

Let me see, another example. I was riding along minding my own business on a bike path. A guy (probably in his mid-20's) overtakes and cuts in front of me really close to avoid some oncoming bikes. I was drinking from my bottle, so only one hand on handlebar... I slammed on front brakes and made me fall off. I was wearing gloves so I didn't get hurt at all, but that is besides the point. The guy looks back and speeds off.... I was really pissed off at first, but in hindsight, I think I might have done the same thing. Coz for all he knew, I could've beaten him up if he stopped to check on me.

Well, what can I say? Rudeness really is a vicious cycle.

Litespeed35 02-23-06 10:52 AM

I almost always offer - not a big deal to help someone, and at some point you'll (I'll) be in the same situation.

I will help if it is wanted. If I stop and start getting it both barrels because the guy is pissed that he screwed up, I tell him were to kiss and move along. I ain't into taking crap off people that I am trying to help. More than one rude tourist has been "told" because they acted like I owed them something.

I went on a ride up montara today and got too the peak. 2000 feet of elevation, it was invigorating. I even beat my best time up, 50 minutes :) On the way down there is an area called the crack which mostly people who have dh bikes ride down. I walk down it as a shortcut(otherwise I'd have a 2-3 mile ride all the way around the side of the mt). I decided try to ride some of it though. I went directly into a big rock and did a nice over-the-handle bar flip. Ouchies, scrapes everywhere but heres the worst

http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/5...ture0244ss.jpg

Anyways, this fall horribly bent my rear rim(I just payed the bike shop to have it trued this morning :( )On the way down my rear tire pops. I repair it, but I dont have anything to buff the area so I pray it will hold. 5 minutes later it pops again, in a different place. I figure something to do with the bent rim, duh! Anyways I just walked the rest of the way. Now getting to the point, I must have past 5-6 bikers and only one guy asked if I needed a patch. I didn't need one, but I was surprised at how many people went by without even offering help.

So would you be a good samaritan and help someone out in need? be it a blown tire, or something wrong with their bike?

I generally offer to help. However if the person is mobile and I am not carrying anything I might just ask a passing, "you all good"...However I generaly stop, as I carry a lot of equipment, and try to help and at the very least, if it is a tourist, I direct him/her to a good shop.
