The thing I find funny about all this is the fact pete fagerlin has had the opportunity too ride in tons of great places (reference his site www.petefagerlin.com) Yet he has the time and feels the need to argue with some "silly kid" over the internet. Quite funny. I better ignore him before he makes me feel even more uncomfortable over the net :eek:

As previously posted, I'm ready to ride whenever. How does your schedule look for the rest of the week? Friday Morning? Sunday Morning? Monday? Tuesday (might be in Tahoe but that's up in the air at this point)? Wednesday? Just let me know... Actaully, while the racing rules state that a racer cannot accept help or equipment, if a racer does accept either, it is up to the racer to report it and DQ him/herself, or up to another racer to report it.
Once saw Nick Waite DQ himself after having 3 flats, accepting 1 tube because he only had 2 with him, and STILL cross the finish line 5 minutes ahead of the next expert/pro racer........ If people are just riding, I would find it the height of rudeness for either of my kids NOT to stop and help somebody; during a race, I would - at the very LEAST - expect them to ask if the rider was ok, and to report the problem to the next course marshal they encounter. But, since my kids have grown up in the WV MTB community, I don't have to worry about them being idiots out there - they always help or offer assistance, and would rather run their bike than accept help. |

Let me see, another example. I was riding along minding my own business on a bike path. A guy (probably in his mid-20's) overtakes and cuts in front of me really close to avoid some oncoming bikes. I was drinking from my bottle, so only one hand on handlebar... I slammed on front brakes and made me fall off. I was wearing gloves so I didn't get hurt at all, but that is besides the point. The guy looks back and speeds off.... I was really pissed off at first, but in hindsight, I think I might have done the same thing. Coz for all he knew, I could've beaten him up if he stopped to check on me. Well, what can I say? Rudeness really is a vicious cycle. |
I almost always offer - not a big deal to help someone, and at some point you'll (I'll) be in the same situation.

I will help if it is wanted. If I stop and start getting it both barrels because the guy is pissed that he screwed up, I tell him were to kiss and move along. I ain't into taking crap off people that I am trying to help. More than one rude tourist has been "told" because they acted like I owed them something.

Anyways I just walked the rest of the way. Now getting to the point, I must have past 5-6 bikers and only one guy asked if I needed a patch. I didn't need one, but I was surprised at how many people went by without even offering help. So would you be a good samaritan and help someone out in need? be it a blown tire, or something wrong with their bike? |
