Im going to give the background on why I ask this question.

I went on a ride up montara today and got too the peak. 2000 feet of elevation, it was invigorating. I even beat my best time up, 50 minutes :) On the way down there is an area called the crack which mostly people who have dh bikes ride down. I walk down it as a shortcut(otherwise I'd have a 2-3 mile ride all the way around the side of the mt). I decided try to ride some of it though. I went directly into a big rock and did a nice over-the-handle bar flip. Ouchies, scrapes everywhere but heres the worst

Anyways, this fall horribly bent my rear rim(I just payed the bike shop to have it trued this morning :( )On the way down my rear tire pops. I repair it, but I dont have anything to buff the area so I pray it will hold. 5 minutes later it pops again, in a different place. I figure something to do with the bent rim, duh! Anyways I just walked the rest of the way. Now getting to the point, I must have past 5-6 bikers and only one guy asked if I needed a patch. I didn't need one, but I was surprised at how many people went by without even offering help.

So would you be a good samaritan and help someone out in need? be it a blown tire, or something wrong with their bike?

Yeah, I have and would. Also, you'ld be suprised how far you can ride on a flat tire off road.

All passed me going uphill at like 5 mph while I was slowly walking my bike down the hill. Fun 3 mile walk =/ not to mention I just got my rear wheel trued this morning at the lbs and now its bent again, arg!@

I would definately have offered. I can't even begin to count how many tubes and CO2 cartridges I have given away to strangers on the trail.

I always carry tubes and tools. If someone is on the side of the trail, I deffinetly stop and ask what's up and if see if i can help of if they need anything.

It depends for myself. If they seem to me to be the type to offer help than i will offer help,i will even fix their problem for them if need be.

I always offer help. This past weekend I even stopped to offer water out of my CamelBack to a dog. The dog's owner stopped me on the trail to say her dog was overheated and thirsty, and she had nothing to give him.

For some reason whenever I repatch my tire in a hurry it allways ends up popping again within a few minutes.

I had a guy lend me a chain tool during a race once (me thinking it's a short XC race, I don't need my blowout bag :p) I've also taken a tube from a guy at a local trailhead.

It's always a good idea to stock up on bike karma. I've been driving, and having witnessed a presumably new roadie (new b/c he was wearing a sweatsuit) walking his bike on the shoulder of the road. I stopped, gave him a tube, changed his tire and gave him some pointers on how to do it for himself. I've given out tubes to other roadies, but I actually don't recall another MTB'er needing one yet.

Do you try to find what made the flat (like a thorn in your tire)?

All of my flats before today have been pinch flats. I don't know what caused todays though, the wheel kept rubbing into something, I dont know what it was.

Not even an issue. Not only would I insist on helping, I'd offer up my tools and whatever it took, and I'd stay with you until either help came or I was sure you were cool. Someone in that much distress needs serious help.

My fork is a quadra 5(not sure if its a quadra 5 or just plainly a quadra, I know its a quadra something)from 1995 I believe. Svr said in the post my rigs thread it only gets 25-30 mm which explains why my shocks don't deflect rocks for crap.

I've stayed with people in need. I've pulled over in the middle of the dark to help out folks- men and women. I carry a crapload of stuff for all kinds of emergencies. And I have emergency money in the event of a really bad problem. I've given away the last of my supplies on more than one occasion. I just don't think it's right to go out and crap all over somoene at the expense of someone else in the name of a "good ride". That person could be in real trouble. It could be life or death. It could just mean the difference between an aweful day and having a very good day.

I just would not feel right leaving someone behind at all. I've had it done to me. It feels like crap.

Oh, and I also have a cpr kit and a first aid kit too. I can do just about anything from fix a broken arm to render cpr in the event of real respiratory distress.

I would like to think that most people would help, I know I would stop to help, even if all I had were parts they could use since I didn't know how to use them yet. :)

I always slow/stop to make sure that they are ok, I have given tubes, use of my tools and my time.

Not the whole movie is the crack, but the majority is. You can tell the crack by the steepness, and not too wide trail. I don't try to ride the parts with drops, I just try to ride the things in between. Which obviously are to steep and rocky for my bike.
