Because they (thankfully) died out some time ago - I rode a friend's bike with one, must've been 12 years ago or so. Maybe you'd get used to it, but having your hand position change in relation to the rest of your body while flying over rough stuff going straight was very disconcerting, never mind while you were turning. I still shudder thinking about it.

My cousin used to have one of those (it was on a full rigid) I tried it out and it felt nice for just biking around on a road but when you take it on a trail I couldn't stand that thing. Pretty much for the same reason that Jalexei mentioned.

Now we just need suspension cranks and suspension bars and we're all set.

I had a Girvin Flexstem for a short time (well I still do have it in a box somewhere). They went out with the Macarena.
