Thinking of going 1X9

On my ETSX. I never use the granny or big ring. So most likely can benifit from getting rid of the weight/complexity of the 2 "extra" rings and front der/shifter. How do I go about sizing the chain tho?

What?? Don't you work at a shop? I would think the manager would'nt have to ask that on a forum.

Bwahahahahaha, I know how to size a chain. Didn't know if there was a "trick" with 1X9 specifically. I figure I'll make it as short as I can so I'll be that much lighter.

Why would it be any different? You just size the chain based on your longest "potential" chain combo.

You will want either a singlespeed chainring or a chainguide for the front though. The chain will really like to hop off of a ring that is ramped and pinned for shifting.

Not necessarily. I ran a ramped/pinned ring with an MRP guide for the last year and a half without a single problem.
