bomber! they're just smooth and last for ever with out any issues! the manitou may be a bit lighter...but they don't ride nearly as nice and don't last nearly as long......that's just my personal preference....

I'd buy this: '02 Shiver: https://www.jensonusa.com/store/product.asp?number=17762
or the '03 DJ1: https://www.jensonusa.com/store/product.asp?number=17620
Both in your price range! Both incredible! Definately go with the 20mm thru axle for incredible stiffness! Although this will mean having to rebuild your wheel, and either of these forks may be a bit overkill for the Giant which is more of a XC type bike!
Note: At Jenson the hub is NOT included! And you will need to get one if you decide to get the 20 mm thru axle.

don't go with the single crown shiver!!! it's smoothe but man it's flexier than a wet noodle... that is the main reason when i bought my giant ac i didn't go with the ac1.....i got the ac2 because the single crown...was so flexy!!! I mean it felt like you were trying to turn a 2x4 that was soaked in water! I do like marzocchi stuff...but not that fork!!!
