Catwalks

I have just started working on my catwalks. The most full rotations I have gotten with the pedals are 5-6 times around. Sometimes I can do them, other times I can't. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do catwalks well and repeatedly?

redallerd 06-27-06 07:29 PM

Umm, what is catwalk?

mx_599 06-27-06 07:38 PM

i think it is "riding a wheelie"

in connecticut, where i grew up, we called it riding a wheelie.:D

If a catwalk is a wheelie:
I find the most important thing is to pull the bars up really high on the first rotation, and just keep em there.

Catwalk aka Riding a Wheelie

A catwalk is what we call riding a wheelie here in Georgia.

What planet are you from?? Seems most everyone in the world calls it a wheelie.

Jason222 06-28-06 09:04 AM

Most Canadians call it catwalking. Well, in eastern Canada anyway.

Hahaha this is great, still not one piece of advice, I love it!

Man c'mon just search the forums there must be atleast 50 threads on wheelies.

Blazinall91 06-28-06 10:48 PM

he probably search cat walk and found a thread about a guy trying to walk his cat while riding his bike and he ended up dragging the cat for 20 yards, I SEEN IT, not pretty

so he did this instead, and now we're informed in the different dialects of MOUNTAIN BIKEANESE

trevor 06-28-06 11:04 PM

my god seriously no one has heard of catwalks?! what has this world come to!

WannaGetGood 06-29-06 12:49 AM

Yeah I sometimes call them a cat-walk, or manuals. But it just takes practice.

wheelie - sitting down, pedalling to control balance
catwalk - standing up, pedalling to control balance
manual - standing up, humping to control balance
seated manual - sitting, using brake to control balance... can also be done with legs hanging off bike for balance.

To offer advice.. work on manualling.
Catwalking is played.
Manualling looks much cooler=D

How do you start a manual? How do you do a manual? Can you be more specific, "humping"?

lyledriver 06-30-06 09:28 AM

You know.. humping, like thrusting your pelvis back and forth?

-to start it, just pull on the bars while leaning way back.
-once the front tire is in the air, pull it up towards your body a bit to bring it up higher.

-if you start to feel like you are about to flip over backwards, bend your knees and thrust your hips forwards

-if you start to fall back down forwards, straighten your legs and get your ass as far back as you can.

You WILL loop out many times while learning, so get used to jumping off and running behind the bike.
..try not to grab the brake though, its bad form.
