That's what I'm running now, Deore hubs. So it was a pretty noticable upgrade? I've been looking at building up a new wheelset and King's have crossed my mind a few times.

Where I found it noticeable was on the climbs at the 24-hour event I just did. There were a few steep ones that were aptly named (Wall of Pain, Revenge, etc.) and I found it easier to chug my way up. Now this is a result of getting a lighter wheelset/cassette most likely. You don't need to get King hubs to get a lighter wheelset. As a matter of fact my wheelbuilder has a lighter wheelset that uses American Classic and DT Swiss hubs.

I chose the CK hubs because they're supposed to be tough and easy to maintain. I know that by getting this wheelset it would be with me for a long time.

Lastly I got the CK hubs because of the bling effect. I happened to choose pink for Breast Cancer Awareness but the simple fact is that these are nice-looking hubs and you will get compliments for them.

If you're looking for some nice high-end hubs you should also look at some American Classic and DT Swiss. I am wary of Mavic hubs as there is a weakness in them with respect to this plastic bushing ring that has to be well maintained otherwise you get damage over a good season's worth of riding.

Yeah, the DT 240's are superbly light. I'm not looking so much for weight savings (although I do want to cut down the weight somewhat) as I am for a hubset that is going to last and not give me any flak.

Ah, same thing I was looking for. Then I really recommend you something along the lines of what I bought.

Here, take the time to read through this MTBR.com review for Dave's Wheels Speed Dream. https://mtbr.com/reviews/Wheelset/product_23649.shtml

With over 100 reviews and an average rating of 4.97/5 you can see why I was sold on these. Bear in mind that I've been shopping for my wheelset for about a year, reading a lot and talking to a lot of people and this wheelset is what I decided on. I splurged on the Chris King hubs as I really wanted to get the pink Breast Cancer Awareness hubs but I could have gotten something very similar for less if I had opted for different hubs.

The best part is that you really start this process with Dave by calling him and talking to him. He will ask the right questions regarding riding style, etc and make recommendations. His web page doesn't state it but he does build Mavic wheels if you wanted.
