Crash and Burn
I was going down a pretty steep, sandy downhill. Not the best thing in the world, but I'd been down it two or three times before fine.
But this time I was just a 1/4" off and my handlebar clipped a tree on the side...jammed my handlebars to one side, my seat into my thight and my leg into the pedal. And bent one of my brake levers..Surprisingly, it didn't hurt that bad...I was more worried about the bike...
The brake lever wasn't too bad, I was able to bend that back for the most part, but I'll probably get something new in the next couple of weeks I'm guessing. But when my handlebars jammed to the one side the screw holding the bar ends on really gouged the paint/frame.
Here's the pic:
Is there anything I can/should do about it?

don't worry, mine's much worse than yours, in both the scratch itself and the story behind it.
i've done nothing so far. it's an aluminum frame, so it won't (shouldn't?) rust... but i'm worried about the paint further chipping away... making the hole grow bigger... and bigger... and bigger...

geez thats a pretty nice scratch there cream soda! the only paint chip i have on my bike is on the downtube.. its about the size of a quarter but it blends in with my paintjob so im not extremely worried. hell i cant really find it when i glance at my frame. wez i wouldnt be worried if you scratch your frame a little. good luck

Yeah I figure it'll probably get alot worse. It's just the first scratch on it so far...so sad...I was mainly wondering If I should worry about it rusting but cream.soda answered that so I guess that's all I needed.
What's the story behind yours creamsoda?

I did something similar just a few days ago.... moment of stupidity on my behalf. I ended up just smacking into a log crossing without any prep (hehehe... riding a little to close to dusk with no light) and toppled over the handlebars. When I came back to the bike, the front was pointed backward and there was a nice gouge in the top tube. I put some car paint on it just to level it out for fun. I don't have matching paint though... so it seems I'll be starting a new contrasting silver patch job on the bike.
I also bent by brake lever for the rear brake. According to Avid's website, it's supposed to bend like that. They recommend replacing it after it bends. I was able to get it MOSTLY back into place on the trail, but when I tried using some brute force on it at home, it snapped. I'm off to get a replacement lever today, hopefully. (The levers on my Stumpy are Avid FR-5.)

Still kicking.
If only my Kona was that unscratched.

That's what stickers were invented for. Or, the bike is toast. Send it to me for a lengthy evaluation. 2 months of testing ought to nail down if the damage is fatal or not.
