manitou axel forks

Are the comp forks any good? I see them a lot lately. Thanks

Jameson 09-09-06 03:38 PM

Oh, I'd say that depends on what you want to do with it and what you mean by good.

mtnbiker66 09-09-06 04:05 PM

I've been riding a hardtail with one on it while training for a 24hr race. Its the most flexy fork I've ever been on.

My Rockhopper came with an Axel Elite...it was quickly replaced.

No. They're cheap that's why you see them.

valbowski1980 09-11-06 07:16 AM

My buddy's Fisher came with an Axel fork. It has held up well for him for the last couple of years, however it really isn't as good IMHO as an equaly priced Rock Shox unit. The Judy SL on my bike now has a lot less flex and better dampening.

Minesbroken 09-11-06 07:44 PM

My Trek is coming with one of those forks on it, I have to ride it that way for the first 3 weeks before I can get my reba cut to fit it then it will be replaced. I'll let you know what I think then.

ed 09-11-06 07:49 PM

It takes you 3 weeks to cut a steerer tube? What are you using, a pair of scissors?

Just throw in a couple of spacers in the meantime. Don't subject yourself to the Manitou Axel. It will be like you are going out on a date with your suspension and it will take advantage of you. You will wake up the next morning in a strange sleezy hotel with damper fluid all over you and a dirty feeling with a vague memory of the trashwad of a fork you rode hard the night before.

No its a money thing right now if I change my fork then I have to change the brakes right now too and I need levers and cables for the bb5's cant do it for 3 weeks lol

Oh...well in that case, I still stand by my analogy. I like it.:D

Minesbroken 09-11-06 08:28 PM

I like your analogy also...sadly it is not a reality :( It will have to wait until I can get the levers and cables. and I will appreciate my reba more when I do get it on there hehe.

Minesbroken 09-15-06 10:00 PM

I got the Trek bike today and have not really had a chance to try it yet, It comes with an elite axel 80 and so far it feels alittle too squishy but tomorrow I will mess with it more and let you know.

jiiiim 09-15-06 10:47 PM

axel comes stock with rubberband as springs. they are sooo worthless in my opinion. all they are good for is just a fork that holds your front wheel.

Minesbroken 09-16-06 06:26 PM

Ok people I rode my bike today around 2 pm, about 2:10 the fork blew up, seals on both sides went and it reverted to a permanent lockout. compression lockout knob does nothing on it now. It's completely rigid. Literally 10 minutes....4 times around the front yard and only off the curb, stopping only for a couple of seat adjustments. Went for a ride through the trails with it rigid and came home PISSED! ripped it off the bike and put my reba on.http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...P1010005-1.jpg

Keep the Reba on there it looks good.

Flak 09-16-06 06:50 PM

Whats on the rockhopper....or do i have you confused with someone else?

Red and orange somehow work too. I wouldnt expect it to look as good as it does.

You dont have me confused, I decided to trade the rockhopper frame in for something alittle smaller and more comfortable for me. Rockhopper was a 21 inch frame and this Trek is 17.5 I went and rode the 07 Rockhopper but didnt like it as much as the Trek. It does look good with the brakes and the fork on it though. now just cranks...rims...stem...bars...lol keeps going

Flak 09-16-06 07:02 PM

Ah fair enough. Yeah unless you're a big bloke a 21 might be a little big.

I like the orange Trek. Nice bike.

Minesbroken 09-16-06 07:05 PM

Thanks. Cant wait to test it out on the trail with the reba.

Tell me how you like it. I've been looking at buying one of them as an upgrade from MY Axel Elite (go figure). Saw it at Pricepoint.com for $354 or so.

Minesbroken 09-17-06 08:13 PM

Rode the bike with the Reba today and it was AWESOME!!! It absorbs Everything!! and the lockout works great, It felt very precise and no binding at all. Once you get it dialed in its a pretty amazing fork.

ankush 09-17-06 08:54 PM

how does the bike feel with the fork at 115 mm (considering the bike comes with a 80 mm fork)?

Minesbroken 09-17-06 09:04 PM

When I have to ride it on the road I lock it out at about 100mm and it's nice but on some rough downhills with roots and rock's and little dropoffs the 115 felt awfully good.
