v10 or ironhorse elite?
so, frame only and second hand... and $1700. I'm looking for a race bike (dh) and the ability to sometimes take it out freeriding (only stuff my friends would do, so that limits it to about 3'-4'
) the v10 is a 2004 model (5th element, and as quoted "Hadley rear hub on a da bomb race rim, floating brake set up, an Easton post and a Race face signature isis bb if you need it. I also have a non floating brake drop out that i can include for a little bit more." whereas the ironhorse is an 06 and nothing else... all the parts will be from an 05 bigfoot. cheers

Whats the condition of the V10? What exact Iron Horse is it? Are you talking about the Sunday or?

good, same with both but the ironhorse has scratches on the bb and chanstay (so it'll be like the old faithful bigfoot

Get the sunday. My friend has a v10 and 10 inches is too much. You can't bunny hop, its insanely heavy, it never wants to leave the ground and it is huge, these apply double for th eolder models. If you are ONLY doing DH racing, then it is perfect, but it is pretty bad for freeriding. I think 9 inches is still a little much, but better than 10. I would suggest 8.5 or 8 inches. I love my faith. Look at the vpfree or faith, if possible.

If you are going to the sunday, I would go with that. I hate the hump on the v10. If that is the right bike that I am thinking about.

An "insanely heavy" bike is not perfect for DH racing. Go look at pro DH sleds, you'll see carbon levers, Ti spokes, and lots of high end light weight components(xo,xtr, dura ace). They are heavy compared to XC or trail bikes but not as heavy as you think.

I know that the new trend is to lighten the bikes as much as possible, but most are still heavy. My friends v10 has ti coils and springs and still wieghs about 48 lbs

I rode a Sunday, granted I'm no downhill racer. The thing was wicked stable and flies perfect, that's the bike I would want to race.
