trails in LA?

So last year my car died. I ended up getting a piece of junk bike to get to work. I peddled my butt off but you know what, I got into really great shape! Now, I have a new car but I'm hooked on riding. A friend of mine just moved and he has left me his bike. Its a Shimano, practically new. Are there any good trails near Hollywood or in the Valley? I've been over some of the coldwater canyon trails, but I need more locations.

Bikes: Lots

Hey mountain_rush, welcome to the forums. Don't know of any trails in LA area, I'm a bit far away. Think Disney WORLD, not Disney Land!

Regardless, you probably don't have a "Shimano" bike. It may have Shimano Components, but not a bike. What is the name on the downtube? Or, there may be a name on the headtube. If you post a picture of it, someone will be able to tell you what it is.

Anywho, welcome again!

Hey Mountain_rush, send me an email. I am in Chatsworth (the Northwest end of the valley) and there are a lot of trails out your way and by my area.

Santa Monica mountains between Brentwood and Encino. Your local bike or book shop will likely have a guide book. REI does for certain. Fire roads mainly, with some considerable single track.

Cool, I've also heard about some single tracks out by topanga canyon, I think. I've been wanting to do some kind of bike tour now. I may have a decent vacation this year so I figured I'd do something different. I might apply for that grant I've been hearing about to cover some of the travelling costs. Is REI in La?
