Trek or Motobecane?

hi, im fairly new to mountain bikes and would like your opinions as to which brand is better. Trek or Motobecane and which bike would best for 800-1000 price range, i intend to use it for trails and there are some "advanced" ones in my area i'd like to be able to do without having to upgrade it later, thanks

Either are pretty good, but you have to get a Motobecane from a shop that has the bike listed close to the actual retail price, or if it isn't, it's probably on sale. I was going to buy a Motobecane from an eBay seller, but they were selling 08's (that weren't even out yet) for like $400 under the MSRP, so I stayed away from them. But If I really had to say so, I'd get the trek. I've never had any bad experiences with trek.

are the motobecanes junk due to poor components? a bad frame? or assembly?

the components are usually too good to be true for the prices. my friend had a fantom comp and busted the frame in a week.
