i think pop lock is a button/switch mounted on the handlebars. when u press the button it locks out the forks. this is very usefull for climbs bcoz u dont lose power. press it again and it unlocks them.

imo you should think of getting a nicer fork than the dart- yeah its has a low price tag but for a little more money you could get a TORA...~$350-$400

yeah i know... but i'd rather buy a cheaper fork now. and then use the extra money i'd spend on a more expensive fork twords a new bike.

Poploc is nice but I don't find that it is much of a necessity. I got it because to add it later was $80 and to get it with the fork was only an extra $20. It basically replaces the adjustment knob on the right side of the fork with a knob connected by wire to a switch on your handlebars. Locking the fork out and adjusting compression are both done via that switch without taking your hands off the bars rather than reaching down to adjust it on the fork.

Nothing. I have an '04 Trek 3500 that I consider a piece, but has a good frame to work with, and is a "beater bike" anyway. Problem is, it doesn't take many "upgrades" at all on an old bike before you spend more than what a well equiped new bike cost. If this is a temporary bike why not get a rigid fork for alot cheaper?

I wouldnt, when you get a poploc, all it does is include a handlebar mount to turn the floodgate on and off. On non poploc versions, you can adjust it from full off, to any position in the middle all the way up to lockout, not like the on/off you get with the standard poploc.

Rockshox sells a poploc adjust to give you back this feature but i think its like an extra 60 bucks or something crazy. Do yourself a favor, stick with lever unless you want to pay 60 bucks extra on top of your already more expensive poploc version just to get the same functionality minus 10 inches of hand movement...

The one I have moves the adjustment to the handlebar control. It looks like this:

https://www.xxcycle.com/poploc-adjust,,en.php

I didn't know there was a version without the adjustment knob; if that were the case I wouldn't even consider it. You should be aware that if you do go with the poploc (at least the one shown in the link above) that you have to use it to have any adjustability, the blue knob on the fork will not stay adjusted without the wire and bar control connected.

**edit** Guess there is a non-adjustable version:
