Schwinn Mesa GSX

I am thinking about purchasing a Schwinn Mesa GSX, it is a hardtail with front suspension. Could I get some opinions please?

the gsx is very similar to a trek 4500 and (i think, but not sure) a raleigh m60. they are very similar except for a few minor details, like bar ends, toe clips, etc. If im not mistaken the gsx has a rock shox jett fork which the 4500 has. the raliegh has some suntor thing on the front. obviously im no expert on suntor. but enough with my rambling! all im trying to say is that they are all similar bikes and you should closely examine all three options to see which one suits yor riding needs just like i did a year ago. I ended up geting the trek, but its all up to you.
HAPPY RIDING!

It has good components on it. Mostly Deore, with Truvativ cranks. Not a bad deal. Schwinn is having some money problems and may be purchased buy a cheapo x-mart brand. But that doesn't really effect the GSX. Are there any other bikes you have looked at? There are several cool bikes in the 599.99 price range. I would suggest looking at a Giant Iguana,a Specialized Rockhopper A1 FS, or a Gary Fisher Tassajara. Don't limit youself to one choice right from the start.

Thank you for the advice, that is exactly what I was looking for. I have a price of 489.00 for the Mesa, do you think I am getting a deal?

Yeah, whoever is selling it to you is cutting about 100 bucks off the sticker price.

Bikes: Too many to list comfortably

The big concern with regards to Schwinn is warranty.

All of the individual components on the bike you want to buy
would have their own separate warranties.

But the actual frame is a Schwinn frame and since whoever
buys Schwinn is under no obligation to continue the warranty
this could be a cause for concern. No one knows because the
deal with Schwinn and the new investors who want to buy
them have not been finalized.

The issue affects me too since my wife's bike is a Sierra GSX
comfort bike (it's in such great shape, it will never die -
she doesn't ride it much and the welds look stronger than
the ones on my own mountain bike).

So, take a look around at other possibilities. Even though
the Schwinn makes a great bike (my road bike is a Schwinn)
the issue exists that the warranty is a big question mark.

I do appreciate the advice, but there is one problem. I bought the bike yesterday for $450.00. I was told that the warranty would be honored through the bike shop no matter what. I am hoping this is true. If not, well I guess I can chalk it up to lesson learned.

This is my first bike with shocks and it was shocking to ride it for the first time. WOW!!!

You will be happy with the Mesa. I bought mine two years ago and love it. It has been a great trail bike and city bike.

Seems that aside from the warranty problems the Mesa you just got is a great ride. I was about to buy a Schwinn Moab too but I ended up getting a Kona. Anyway, Congratulations on your new ride.
