Probably going to need some more info to get a decent answer. Learning to work on your bike yourself (if you don't know how already) will make most upgrades expensive and save you the cost of tune-ups to keep it running smooth. To avoid the cost of buying tools you may want to check to see if you have a bike co-op near by.

I have a K2 Attack. I'm trying to just get it to run more smoothly.

Probably just because its a mountain bike, but I find it too slow. Should I make my suspension stiffer?

Also, bringing my bike to school tomorrow, anything I should watch out for?

You could just ride it and replace things as needed....or you could keep the grips and upgrade around those.
