Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
Looks only matter if you're either posing or staring at the bike while riding.
Besides, another BF member has a great sig that goes something like this: "When you get down to it, we're still just dorks riding bikes."
Sorry, but we're just not going to look "cool", no matter what kind of fork is on the bike.
Personally, I was really impressed with the Lefty on some test rides. It really works.

I guess these aren't technically mutually exclusive.
There is a large part of me that likes being able to have headset, stem, and fork choices that are not all manufactured by the same company. Call me crazy.
That said, plenty of people are riding them, and lefties are supposed to have a fantastic ride.
And while we're talking about looks, I really like how headshoks look. Not so much Lefties. No, I will not seek to justify my views in any way. Oh, and obviously cannondale aluminum frames look good. They're smooth. They look like carbon.

So...I'll start welding tubes together and using bondo to cover my mistakes and charge $1500 for them. Then I'll sell them by the truckload b/c they cost so much...they must be stellar!!
I'm not a fan of C-Dale. I had a Super-V 900 comp for 5-7 years and had no problems to speak of except for the Headshok that fell apart and needed rebuilding. (needle bearings actually fell out) C-Dale dealer rebuilt it for free. The frame was taken off several 4' to flat drops and never showed signs of stress anywhere.
So, since I had one for so many years and never had any problems...why do I not recommend Cannondale?
I dunno...I just friggin don't like 'em!
No reason.

It would depend on the style of riding, for a pure XC machine I really dig the Scalpel Replicas and the Scalpels ride sooo nicely. Plus the Lefty, once set up correctly, works great.
The one C'dale I would never recommend was the older Team DH frames. I have seen a lot of snapped chain stays on them puppy's. The Judge looks good but I have not ridden one yet.

I may get flamed here, but I will state my opinion based on my experiences. Every one of the guys that I ride with (that rides a C-dale) has broken his frame - EVERY ONE. We are XC guys that don't do a ton of hucking - just too old for it. Having stated that, C-Dale did replace EVERY frame that broke, but my confidence level is low when it comes to C-Dales frames now.
And please don't get me started on the Coda components or the left forks.

I have an F600 with a headshock. It is a great XC machine and would highly recommend it except for the fork compatability issues. A bit wiser and much more of a tinkerer than when I bought it, I cannot reccomend a bike with proprietary parts.

CAN O ALE
I'm not too familiar with them and have only ridden with the Headshock type hardtail for a like a week. Seemed the front end was quite laterally stiff/tracked very well.
Does Cannondale still make the headshock? Seems like a good idea from an engineering point of view.

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
The "living chainstays" of the Scalpel make me paranoid, though. I'd still rather have an all-aluminum frame when it comes to mountain bikes.

I also steered away from cannodale but i have been looking for an xc bike for the last few weeks. Tested a black 08 F3(caffeine frame) with the head shock. It really felt crisp and responsive and the head shock locks out nicely, very strong and light fork. Bike weighs 26 pounds. 1300$ Not to jack the thread but is there a better bike for the price?
