No offence, I'm just baffled..
1) i am not a dopefiend, but thanks for the snide remark.
2) i registered a while ago and never really went on this forum aside for a few things, and i havent had time to really start understanding my bike and be willing to fix it on my own until now. So after two years of using my bike, with only a few problems here and there, I am now planning on diving in a little more.

most mountain bikes will have a 1 1/8'' threadless steerer tube.
yes, there are different sizes, but most bikes have the same size diameter head tube. Some new freeride bikes have a larger headtube, designed for 1.5'' diameter steerer tubes, and some older bikes have a smaller headtube, designed for 1'' steerer tubes. But, a substanially vast majority of modern mountain bikes are designed for the same steerer tube size, 1 1/8''.

there is a sticky at the top of the page to help you sort out the pros and cons. MTB FAQ

BTW, this is my last post here at BF MTB. I just waste to much damn time here. To all the regulars, its been fun.
Thank you for the help, I appreciate it.

Damn, that's dissapointing that I can only get a 80mm-100mm shock. Is there any possible way to bump up to a 140mm or a 120mm or something? 80-100mm seems so lame, I guess that's because I got a relatively lame bike...

Yeah, but until you upgrade to a frame that has the correct geometry for that kind of travel, your 'hopper'll be even more 'lame'.
80-100mm is normal for an XC bike.

120mm shouldn't be too bad until then..

Ok, so you would say it's a safe bet to run 120mm MAX on my lame XC bike? =)

That's a 1 1/8" diameter steertube non-threaded. Good, that is by far the most common.

Pyro in the future can you keep it to personal messages? I know it's hard, but otherwise threads just turn into a pissing match, and, well, we saw what happened last time

Legalize-

I can appreciate that you are doing the best you can to learn on the forum. But, it is pretty much a given that when you post with little knowledge of the subject that the sharks will start circling and try taking a few bites out of you. Fortunately, there are some posters here who are considerate enough to look through all that and do their best to help you learn.

I WOULD suggest that you go to the Stickys and FAQ stuff and arm yourself with more knowledge. Also, just do more passive reading of the threads here- try to just read and don't post if you can help it. Another thing would be to go to your LBS and ask them questions. Knowledge is power, as the saying goes.

As a side note, take Mr. Smashy's advice and never state that you are putting someone on ignore. If you truly intend to ignore someone, DO NOT EVER respond to them.

Sorry, I decided making a post like yours. Tis fun, I should try it more.

Chances are the steerer tube is 1.125" (most are but some are as big as 6") BOTOH, yours could be 1". just remember to get the correct sized CERTIFIED star nut.
Seems you are learning fast,eh? now you know what a "steerer tube" is. It won't be long before you know the name of that tube that the "steerer tube" goes into(downtube).
As far as being to high for your rear end goes , it actually depends on the oil you use, what kind of oil are you planning to use? Is this going to be a Pneumatic or springer boinger? I am riding 14" in the rear & 3" up front. Mine is Pneumatic though. It also depends if you are going to get your rear Pushed or not, if you going to have it Pushed you can ride larger.
I hope this helped you out.
Wow! Post of the year. I would like to see pics of the 6" steerer tube.
