Single speed frame Multi gear Hub?

Hi, Ive been looking at getting a new mountain bike. I live in England and have been doing some riding in really muddy conditions so thought it would be a good idea to get a simple bike (less to go wrong, less to clog up) I really like the sound of the genesis io id https://www.genesisbikes.co.uk but dont think i can stretch to the cost. The other option would be the io which is just a single speed. I dont think im fit enough to cope with a single in the conditions I ride though so was wondering if it was possible to fit an Alfine hub (like the one on the io id) to it instead and saving a couple of hundred £'s. Im concerned about lack of cable routing etc so any help would be much appreciated.
