Stop With the "If you ride x bike and don't y, you're a poseur" Crap!

I'm tired of people calling other people poseurs just because they ride a nice bike and don't race. I saw a nice guy riding a gorgeous Orbea Oiz Carbon the other day, and I mean GORGEOUS. Full XTR, carbon seatpost, bars, et cetera. $5g bike. The guy looked to be around 40 or 50, and was wearing some baggy MTB shorts and a t-shirt. We had a nice conversation, and I asked him a bunch of questions about his bike. I think we both enjoyed talking about it. BUT, next thing you know, some lycra-wearing asshat pulls up next to me and him (fire-road leading up to trail head) and starts talking crap about how if he's not a racer, he shouldn't be riding that bike.

This is bull crap. Why can't everyone just be happy for someone if they have a great bike. If you can afford a dream-bike, buy it. And race it. Or don't race it. Just ride the hell out of it and enjoy it. Don't let the elitist ass-holes make you feel like a poseur or talk you out of buying a bike. A poseur is someone who sits at the trail-head with their shiny new bike and doesn't ride it, so everyone can see each inch of it's titanium, unridden glory.

Elitism exists in every facet of society you might as well get used to dealing with them.

What was the asshat's reaction when you said something to him about it?

I just can't imagine a mountain bike racer stopping for no reason other than to tell the person if he doesn't race he shouldn't be riding the bike he is on. I have been around a lot of racers and I have never heard of anyone actually doing that. Most of the racers I know couldn't care less what other people are riding.

Oh yeah to keep it on topic, pecan pie sucks!

Er, we were riding on the fire road to the trail head.....

I don't think anyone would stop to be a dick.

And since this thread has gone to hell, I hate pecan pie as well. However, pecan SWIRLS are win.
